Massey ferguson 390

My 390 will go into gear fine but will hardly move unless I rev it. It had a new clutch about 7 years ago

Leaking from where? Bell housing?

Is it an 18 Speedshift? If so try shifting on the button and see what happens.

No on the tipping ram.

If its a 12x12 then clutch is the only thing that can slip

Ah I see. So I need to adjust it

If it is a linkage type pedal arrangement you need to adjust the threaded rod to achieve 1" free play at the pedal. If it is the later cable type the pedal needs to be adjusted to the same height as the brake pedal using the clamp bolt and slotted adjuster.

Sounds completely knackered luckily I know somebody who might take it off your hands

The tractor has sentimental value my nan gave it to me before she died so the tractor wont be going anywhere

How many hours on that clutch do you think? I’m in the process of changing a clutch on the fendt 395 that’s done 3000 hours of loader work.. but no round baling which must be the worst dry clutch killer ever!

I would say it's done about 600 hours

As above, check the thrust bearing clearance. But if it’s had a roasting then might have to be replaced again. There should be a heavy duty sintered paddle plate available.

600 hours of loader work with the wrong pilot could deffinitely kill a clutch in a 390
