Massey Ferguson 7480 owner opinions

Afternoon,

I’m looking into adding a second tractor to the business, and currently what I’m thinking of is a Massey 7480 T2 VT. T2 7480 fits the business well, and perfect size along with 50k on the road, and the vario would be luxury for us.

Will mainly be on the rake/wrapper through the summer and bale spikes/flat trailer through the winter on deliveries.

Have found a few tidy examples 5-8k hours for £25-29k. Another option is a 6480 t3, but would expect to pay more and not so keen on a dyna 6, but open to opinions on them too.

Looking for some comments and opinions on previous experiences with a 7480vt. From what I hear the vt gearbox is quite reliable (obviously dependant on previous driver), but how does it stand heading up to 8k hours? Would I be buying a tractor ready for a replacement vario?

Any other common faults/issues to look out for or expect to happen with those hours?

Make sure it all works as should and if you buy 1 give it a full service.
Adjust the rear brakes every 2k hours .
Transmission oil and filters every 1600
Transmission high pressure filter every 800
Only use high range for road work and low range for field work

Yes we have MF7480 11 plate has over 8000 hours on it now is a good tractor been very little trouble had a new water pump in the summer & a new front diff as well, very hard to find now our one has gone up in valve since we bought it, I would not bother with 6480 dyna 6 at them hours it will be passed its sell by date

Had one, wouldn’t have another. The control systems in the little left hand screen are completely cryptic, on road performance is terrible, and we had a lot of problems with the brakes not balancing properly with the cardan brake. The main brakes are manually adjusted and if they’re only done every couple thousand hours as per the book the cardan brake gets over used. Front cab mounts are constant hassle, as are the rear air springs, although they’re fixable with some springs from a 5400. The engine is bombproof, ours was a Sisu but the earlier Perkins I beleive was good too. They really are poor pullers on the road though, a tractor of 30 or 40hp less with a proper gearbox would out-do it.

Worth adding, I think the poor road performance must have been a software thing, the 77’s which I think have the same box pull very well.
