Massey Ferguson auxiliary pump

Photos on my page are of 699. My 1979 model 590 is then a bit different when it comes to that return pipe.

I added a decent filter to my 565, when I replaced it's steering pump with dual element pump coming from 390. There is also own suction strainer for this 390 pump and that old strainer only for the Ferguson pump. So now 565 has 390 style hydraulics:

Hello again. An owner of MF 188 asked me how to get the auxiliary pump to work. There are only plugs on the side cover, where the pipes should be. He opened the plugs and oil was pumped out, when engine was running, so should be the pump inside. But I think that inside that cover is a manifold with opening that lets pressure oil go straight to return (that the pump don't have to push against relief valve). What kind of connector is meant for this to get pressure out? Some longer banjo bolt, that closes the shortcut hole or some other system? By serial number this 188 should have Mark3 lift hydraulics, if my info is correct.

THe manifold should have been external, best check the pressure as by what you say the pump must have been pumping against the relief valve for some time. The manifold may still be external but stuck to side cover by paint or gasket. Then its like MF Andy says

Hi massey ferguson 290 here. It has the ipto and was wondering if it's a similar setup to the 500/600 series. I'm having a problem where when I turn off the pto it seems to load up the engine and makes a noise in the backend as if the pump is under pressure. Could this be caused by a bad relief valve on the auxiliary pump causing a build up of pressure when pto off or is there anything else to suspect first. When pto is on it sounds normal and everything is functioning as should. Thanks
