Above forklift Hydraulics getting slow fine when cold but running for 1/2 an hour then will hardly lift the boom.
Suspect the pump, priced new no longer available apparently, either a replumb with new priority valve or can get a pump built for a lot less £££ but the valve on the back would be swapped as also no longer available.
Sorry long story but question is anybody know how the priority valve could be tested.
@ACEngineering perhaps

Valve either works or it dont! On yours it send priority oil flow to steering and has a brake charge valve in it to charge accumulator.

Modifying the machine to later pump and valve is a big expensive job. And a pain to route hoses through.

You would really have to love your machine alot to do that!!!
People get far too attached to there old matbros!🤦‍♂️

Aye been here a while right enough.
It was a big price for change pump and valve right enough as you say plus pipework and labour.
So no brake problems or steering problems is it too big a jump to assume valve ok?

if steering and brakes are charging okay then valve must be working. How long for is the million dollar question but the chances of it being okay are greatly increased the sooner you replace the pump as if the pump eats self and throws a load of metal in the valve it wont do it any good at all.
Also cleaning BOTH hyd tanks out and new oil and filters is a good idea either way you go. I would also drop a big magnet in each tank too just to catch anything metal you miss when cleaning! (leave the magnets in the tank)

So I have been thinking about this for a while. With a new pivot steer handler in the region of 60k and upwards, if you have in my case a Matbro tr250-110 bought for not a lot of money and doesn’t owe us a penny it would be a bloody site cheaper to give it a refit than it would be to buy a new one or a newer one that was someone else’s problem. Is that not what the earth moving lot do? Seems to me that the purpose of a telehandler is to lift and move things, surely a modern jcb for example will do the same job as a refitted matbro. They can not have advanced THAT much surely?

The advancement is in the speed they do it and in the case of JCB, the transmission (Dual tec ).

Beginning to think along those lines, BUT you still need something to lift and load, fit under low roofs and feed stock during a refit

I half decent TR250-110 is worth refurbishing if you can get all the parts you need, which most of them you can or get around. TR250-110 was a decent machine to start with which helps alot!

People do shy away from this as they simply dont want to spend the money on old machines, but so long as you got the right type of machine and its half decent to start with and not a wreck it can be worth doing. The other reason people dont do it is insurance likely wouldn't pay out what it cost to refurb if something happened and the time scale involved to do a proper refurb or i should really be saying restoration!

Also you cant really finance a restoration like a new/used machine.

True but you could probably do it for 1 years payments on a new one so therefore perhaps save for a year? There are ways around everything if there is a will to find them. I know it wouldn’t be for everyone but as I said be for it is just my thinking at the moment. Also “repairs” are 100% tax deductible if you are in that happy situation!
