As McMurray says over 10000 hrs is when the chances of a dropped valve increase.£1000 does the head, last dropped valve repair I know of cost £5000.
Had a quick look at Mcmurray tractors page. They have some very smart tractors for sale. I also note that although they sell predominantly NH they do engine work on a vast variety of engines. There was even a pic of a big Cat engine in bits. all interesting stuff.

I agree it might never happen, but it's a sensible precaution if you intend to run the tractor to high hours. It's like house insurance, your house might never burn down but would you risk not insuring it?
Exactly, agree with this. Yes dropped valves can happen, they don't occur as frequently as some folk would let on

A local contractor that I used to drive for has had 2 drop valves. That's out of 9 tractors he has owned with powerstars. Maybe he's just been unlucky but I wouldn't let one go much over 10000hrs before pulling the head off

I would guess the best bet would be to see what you can find in budget and go from there. Once a suitable candidate has been located i'm sure there are plenty of owners who will give good buying advice based upon there experience.

We have found 1 maxxum for sale know of another that we would prefer that might be for sale (and it's in Orkney) and have found a 3120 going to speak to sandy in the new year about masseys though! Not found anything blue that would do!

Just now if it all work the way we want it to! a 5130 30k that we know the history of! And dad seems keen on swapping the cogs in it to 40k and putting a turbo on

Is the cog swapping possible?

Well naturally all the best people have blue tractors, but I'm sure we could find it in our hearts to still talk to you ;):ROFLMAO:
What does the "pro" bit actually add?
Lots of money though! Lot of hours as well![emoji6]
Go faster stripes :ROFLMAO:
