This was one of the main reasons I cancelled my Defender order option and got my deposit back. I don't like the Gypsyfied styling. Instead of growing on me, I've already grown sick of it and it ain't even at the dealers yet.

Sat in one on Wednesday and was disappointed, quite ugly and interior not that impressed with. Not that i would buy one as pickups are more use to me.

no surprise there

It is old news. Still old news for some people but making the headlines today because of an official announcement and local protests, is that the factory that makes the Mercedes, but more significantly the Nissan Navara is being shut down completely and permanently by the end of this year.

Navara production is being transferred to South Africa, which seems to be turning into a kind of worldwide pickup production hub for all brands. I wonder what the reason for this is? Soon they will be producing pickups there for Ford, Volkswagen, Nissan, Renault, Toyota, Isuzu and some others.

I agree. I think the new Defender is already a disaster for JLR even before it’s got going. It’s 5 years too late, the boat has sailed anyway but may have turned around if what they produced was something that resembled the old car but with all the issues addressed. That’s literally all they had to do.

Look at the latest G wagon- universally loved by all I believe? Still looks like something out of the 70’s but with 21st century interior and driving characteristics. JLR even had the big engine available to compete with the G63 which seems to sell like hot cakes. They’ve thrown away their commercial audience with it anyway so they may as well have gone the whole hog and upped the price to say £60k onwards and done the job properly. I can’t see this new model being around for very long.

Unless they get the £1billion they are asking for, maybe JLR itself might not be around to see 2021. I'm fairly sure that they will get it, in return for a share in the business. Back to at least a part public ownership. Part nationalisation.

For what it's worth I passed the LR dealership on my way back from depositing cheques yesterday and there was a new silver 110 Defender in their yard. Probably the first one for them.

The quality and aftersales service of McLaren is allegedly drastically poor, so I doubt whether they get many repeat sales. The resale value is also very poor. All of which doesn't sound good.
Aston Martin is another one in dire financial trouble with share price down from something in the tens of Pounds down to around 38p in less than two years. They also have the imminent launch of their SUV, which looks drastically bland and doesn't stand out from a Honda CR-V or Nissan Qashqai, but whose starting price is nearly £170,000. It is obviously more luxurious with more interior options and very much more powerful engines, but it enters a market that has become very crowded indeed in recent years and indeed into a market that is very much in decline, certainly in Europe.

A man I do work for has 2 AMG G wagons loves them, he has had at least 5 since I've known him. He bought the first one because he uses it to take the dog out for walks with it that's all it does. His wife was always taking it on him because she liked it too, so he went and bought her one so she would stop taking his.....I kid you not.

The new model, probably two years away yet, is the one ro be built at the Ford factory in S. Africa. Yes, the current model is probably very near to or already has ceased production in Germany. Not sure whether lesser spec models are still built in Argentina. The Mercedes X was also to be phased out in the same time frame, with far fewer built than planned even back in January, obviously due the the virus shutting the Spanish factory.

Surely the defender and disco survival is down to the attitude of the Indian or Slovakian governments.
JLR have cash or notes of credit to see them through July maybe August.
