On the iveco engine you have to remove the starter motor and drop a pin down into a slot in the Flywheel through the casting then remove the lift pump and check that some extra casting marks on the cam shaft are facing out not in else ull be half a turn out. That's off the top of my head from memory but that's the jist of it.

That's what I thought but when I took the starter off there was no slot?
the timing pin is underneath the injector pump, you could just have a blanking plate you take off then you will need to make a pin (i did this anyway out of a bolt that fits the hole in casting then turned the end down to fit the gear) OR there is a adaptor bolted on with a black plunger, you press the plunger in to lock it BUT the plunger is plastic and the end snaps off if your not very carefull.

You still need to make sure the cam is in the right place though. a wise thing to do would have been to set it on TDC before removing the pump :X3: once pump is removed you can then for piece of mind confirm you got it right as the pump key way should line up just off to one side of the mark on the pump casting.

Not on this engine they dont, most of the others the do just like a cummins.

It's quite a small hole on an angle I seam to remember in a place that you don't think it should be.

every NEF engine i have done has it underneath the injector pump mounting and i have seen it in same place on mccormics too.
