Mchale 991 chassis

having recently purchased a mchale 991 wrapper and a power pack....I now want to make a chassis for it to tow it about...has anyone else done this...what I want to know is what’s the best axle to use...I have a Howard muckspreader chassis but the wrapper would need to be lifted to avoid fouling the wheels and then it would be a big drop for the bale...any advice greatly appreciated

We used an axle off a David Brown baler when we made one......

......but that was nearly 40 years ago   :p

Seriously though, the height of the drop is not too much of a problem. I'm assuming you only want to move it from stack to stack, so it will be stationary in use. What we used to do, with the one above, if the stack site was stoney, was to put a cushion of straw down to tip the bale on.
If you've already got a Howard chassis, I'd go with that (y)

I’ve got sheets of stokbord for them to drop on...was just worried about splitting.....was thinking of buying some hubs and just making the chassis by welding them onto some box section

we put our KV remote wrapper on a old low bale trailer one with the wheels on the outside of the bed and the bale just dropped on the back of the trailer so it didn't matter if there was stones in the yard I was working in
we had a small combine engine with hydraulic pump fixed on it to drive the wrapper so I am not sure how good these power packs are
It worked great the best I managed was one bale wrapped and stacked every 35 seconds

I've used various wrappers, and I'd be tempted to put it on a low loader, or a drop bed one. Bale lands on platform stops in the same place every time, and it's easier to pick up off a raised bed.
Saw one on a flat Ifor one day but I reckon it would move about with heavy bales.
If dropping on to the ground, a double mattress works well.
