Mchale 998 or Kuhn 4014

Which wrapper to swap to next?
User experiences valued on pros and cons.
We will be swapping 2 x 2007 KV 7664 wrappers ( Both good machines ) for 1 machine for next season.
We do 4 string 6 string and round bales so the Kuhn is an obvious choice but how effective is the Mchale machine with a round bale kit fitted. Thanks all.

If you are doing any quantity of rounds the Kuhn is the one. My contractor has one of each and has the round bale kit on the McHale but they pretty much only use the Kuhn for rounds.

Where I work, we do a lot of haylage for horses. At busy times, we put 4 layers of wrap on when it is baled, and then put another 4 layers on when we pick them up. Less chance of bird attacks then too. We have a Kuhn 4004 at the moment but have considered a McHale, but the pickup conveyor would rip through the wrap when we come to rewrap the bales that have already had 4 layers. The Kuhn has been good and handles round bales well too, as well as being neater than a 998. Not heard good reviews about the round bale kit for one, but not from a reliable source. We tried the Tanco the other day, which worked well, but involved reversing into each bale, which isn't my idea of fun!

So you wrap 4 layers in the field... cart them home.... then wrap another 4 layers? Sounds a bit backwards [emoji15]

No they stay in the field and get rewrapped in the field. Sometimes there are up to 100ac cut as well as other contracting work, so can sometimes be up to a week after they've been wrapped before they get picked up. If some have been attacked by birds then it doesn't matter. It is extra work, but it's something to do on a rainy day and saves time when we are at our busiest with quicker wrapping and not having to have someone on the loader

Weve done the same in the past when we have had 100s of bales on the floor and needed to beat the rain. Also helps avoid working through the night sometimes. Kuhn machines aren’t cheap are they!
