McHale HS 2000

Posting this here and on the 'Livestock & Forage' thread to ensure I reach the maximum number of TFF brains.

With 10 bales left to wrap and rain heading this way our HS 2000 decided to throw a bit of a wobbly this morning. Pressed 'Auto Start', as normal, and it does one turn and then decides it is 'out of film' and stops.

It is not out of film - both spools connected and running as normal.

Quickly checked both dispenser rotation sensors, connections and wiring and can't find anything untoward. As it's telling me it is 'out of film', I assume it must be somewhere between the join between the two individual dispenser sensors and the control box ( because it should continue wrapping with one dispenser if the other one has run out/broken the film).

Finished the last few bales on 'manual' and kept getting on and off to cut/re-join the film etc, before the rain arrived.

Anybody any idea where to start looking before I have to waste hours with the multimeter?

TIA.

not sure if your aware butYou can turn off the film sensors with the control box to enable you to wrap automatically but without it taking over and using one till when the film breaks.as to what's wrong, sorry not sure,as you say, check plugs and wiring carefully, have fun😕

Thanks - I'd forgotten about that
Works ok with them turned off so at least I'll be able to keep going when I get some more cut.

Know nothing about them but if it's anything like a fusion then sounds like the battries gone in the dispenser caps, when you say you checked them, as in rotating them with the red light flashing? sorry if I'm totally wrong as only going on fusion setup.

Had it 20 years and never seen any batteries :woot:
These sensors work by passing a magnet over or under them which opens ans closes the circuit (like a switch) - when the pulsing stops the control box knows the dispenser isn't rotating.
In this case they are both rotating but somewhere in the circuit the pulses aren't getting through to the box.

That's why I think the problem is somewhere between the point where both sensors link up and the control box.

It could well be this bit of solid state gubbins ......

...as both sensor wires go into it.
No idea what it is as I haven't got a wiring diagram.

I think batteries are just on the fusion and orbital wrappers.

We had the same last year dealer said it was sensor problem fitted new one and still the same !! Turned out to be the main cable from wrapper to control box ££££

There temperamental things at times but easy to sort by yourself if you no where to look

if the wrap sensors are playing up go to operator setup and turn film sensors off and just knock the spool off if the wrap snaps and hit the resume button when you click the spool back in Don’t use it in manual it’s a right faff on
