McHale or Kuhn Fixed or Variable?

Big thumbs up for Kuhn, I’m well chuffed with my fixed chamber FB3130, net is so simple to change and totally reliable roll after roll no drama, just gets the job done.
Same model here.

Makes you wonder why other manufacturers thought the net roll needed to be secured by the cardboard roll.

Kuhn allows you to plonk it there and do its thing…….simplicity itself. (y)

Really thought it was meant to be the dogs doo dah’s by previous posts from the op!!!
I know someone that had to replace the belted slats and one hell of a heap of bearings and it was mega expensive and a job from hell and he’s a agri mechanic by trade.
I was quite interested where two balers where baling side by side the other side of a valley recently and one was fixed chamber and the other variable making larger bales and it was so easy to see which rounds and areas the variable belt machine was working by the extra distance the bales were apart

yea just think off all the wrap saved if theres say a quarter more in each bale, its a no brainer for me i hate wasting money on wrap...

Arranged with the local dealer for a Kuhn Fixed chamber 3135 to come bale a light crop of haylage at a neighbours tomorrow......

I'll take a few pictures of the bales

Based on the comments so far, whether I post them up for everyone to see is a different matter !!!

Prices for welger parts have gone through the roof with Agco. Think we will be looking closely at kuhn and mchale when we change next

Welger parts have always been expensive, first roller I’ve had go since 2005 on a rp200.It’s the one above the axle which takes the full weight of the bale momentarily when it leaves the chamber so should be a stronger one but isn’t.Roller is £700.

If it’s speed an output with making a good bale look at JD v451R is the replacement of the 960 if I’ve gotten the numbers right
Mate of mine runs a 960 and it'll make a seriously tight bale it'll make an absolute fool of a McHale v660 in the same field of grass they're even better than my old welger 445 and it made bloody good bales . he has had bother in chaffy straw but local dealer made a mod which has sorted it

I thought the vicon netting system was pretty simple unless its different on the belt baler.

Same baler does some for us most years, it seems to be able to swallow anything and as you say proper tight bales.

Kuhn 3130 and 3135, apart from the can bus and knife selection, what are the differences?

Is the 3135 bigger bearings and chains, higher pressure, faster rotation, more in a bale?.....

Kuhn control box is isobus so you can use the box or plug into tractor box. Mchale has just brought out an isobus baler but you either have an isobus one or a control box it is not interchangeable.

Kuhn belt one here after 3 krone comprimas.

It has a mechanism that carries the net in to the bale, rather than just feed it between rollers as Welger do.Much slower and less reliable than the welger system, the baler is new to the dealer so may not be setup right.

Yes it preloads it at 90% of the bale ready to go the second it reaches 100%.its pretty quick.baled along side a welger and McHale neither were as quick as the vicon.maybe dealer didn't have it set right if they new to them.

So after reading this thread i,ve come to the conclusion we all need 2 balers, belt for dry grass, straw etc etc and fixed for wet grass and short autumn clover grass.
I bale a lot of late grass and the though of taking a belt baler to do the job is a bit like playing front row against the all blacks, your in for a hard afternoon.

What's wrong with the comments so far? I thought there were some pretty good opinions.
When someone really sings the praises of a piece of equipment but doesn't automatically buy another it makes folk curious.
The positive that I see is that no one has really said don't buy brand xyz, they're complete s**t, so its probably down to individual preference and requirements.

Comments so far have been brilliant: Factual, insightful, and totally lacking in "my mates heard of 19 in the workshop with broken gearbox" etc.

No need for things to change 👍
