I’ve been watching an Italian tv programme on Amazon Prime called The Dinner Club. The host is the chef who appears on the Italian equivalent of Masterchef ( he is about as far removed from Greg Wallace as you can get, like comparing a dirty lump of chalk with the finest aged parmigiana-reggiano). He has six guests, all famous Italian actors, writers, comedians etc. Every week the host takes one of them to a different part of rural Italy to find ingredients and recipes to take back and cook for the other five. All the recipes contain meat, often offal, dairy etc. One of the most popular starters was lard, a big lump of pure fat no meat, sliced thinly, eaten with bread and salt. All the guests raved about it, indeed in the whole series no one said that didn’t eat meat, or dairy or they had stopped eating gluten. Can you imagine the equivalent programme being made here with six actors ? It would have to be a complete woke-fest of farting cows and vegan sainthood. Is it just in this country that people are so gullible and far removed from what they are actually eating that they would rather eat factory produced junk than any ‘real’ food?
