Medical certificate for shotgun licence renewal

A young man that I know is at one of the agricultural universities and has had to have his medical form done at the surgery that all of the students are registered at. There was quite a fee and given the number that are at the age where they want to apply for a license it must be a nice little earner for the practice.

I did my renewal in June this year.

At my last renewal, 5yrs ago, I had to pay my GP £25 for their 'involvement'.

The renewal letter I got from the police this year stated because I had done the GP part last time, it isn't needed this time.
So I filled out the renewal and sent it to my the FEO. I've never heard from the GP, so no charge, and got my new certificates back after 6-7 weeks.

I had a message on the answer phone a couple of weeks ago to ring back dyfed Powys police " as a matter of urgency'". Thinking it was about a speeding ticket or something,I phoned next morning to find out my gun licence tan out in June 😳. Told them very sorry but hadn't had a reminder ( ummm... Found it later...) and she said get the guns onto someone else's licence and storage NOW!!. Taking the forms in to the doctors tomorrow.👍
At least you had a helpful response and NOT a copper turning up and taking them in... as does happen!!

At last: Just been talking to West Mercia firearms. Apparently, if the NHS surgery does not play ball [and most don't seem to be] and your shotgun certificate expires, you can lock your guns in your cabinet, give the keys to another cert holder, then both parties email their details to Plod. This way, you don't to transfer guns and ownership etc. They did say I can always find a private practice to sign the form........££££

I renewed mine in April this year. Avon and Somerset. In all fairness it was an absolute doddle. I filled in the on line forms after getting a timely reminder. Applied also for a .223 slot as well. Phone call from the licensing office, all in order and the certs duly landed, most straightforward renewal to date.

Really feel for all of you that have issues with your constabularies. A & S used to be really hard work but seems now they are one of the better ones.

Its a PIA and it stops the GP from dealing with folks who are/may be actually ill. Its not a money making scheme given the amount of admin involved and the very low numbers of folks with certificates.

The police should reject that form as its not signed by the GP

I got two in the same envelope, one for S.G, one for F.A then a week later two more arived all dated same 🤔
Same here, but a bigger gap between the two lots of letters.

Not looked at the dates, to be fair, I just assumed the first two letters had run out and they'd sent two more to extend the cover.

Just had my renewal through the post yesterday. Big red form that needs filling in by Dr. If I hadn't been to the drs three weeks ago it was his predecessor I saw back in 2004.
On the front it says, I am applying for a shotgun cert etc. This form must be filled in by my GP and I realise there will be a fee from for filling it in and I am happy to pay said fee !!!(sounds a bit like the red tractor lot !) and no form means no renewal etc. Answers must be fact and not an opinion, 12 yes or no questions. And I will be £50 lighter for the privilege.
What gets me though BOLD words on the opening letter that they are busy and the completed forms and fees should submitted at LEAST 8 weeks before the expiry date !
Mine arrived with 7 weeks to go 🤦

Not any one else's responsibility to make sure you renew your Shot gun licence/FA Cert or even Driving licence in time.

You know when they run out, it's up to you to make sure you start the renewal process in time.

PS; Don't forget to wipe your arse every time you have a s hit!

The receptionist certainly could not sign the forms. If that is anywhere near true then it is a matter for the GMC
Could not or should not? If there are no medical issues it's only name and address and tick six boxes. Maybe the doc gave permission. Where does the money go, Christmas party?

Could/should does not matter. It is simply completely unacceptable for admin staff to sign a medical report and likely to lead to severe censure or suspension of the GP.
The fee is the same as any income which will go through the books
