Don't really know where to begin. I'm 29 and had an accident about 2 months ago where I was crushed by a cow. Since that I have lost all my passion for milking cows and my anxiety, stress and depression levels have got too much that I can't Clear my head. Has anyone ever just lost the passion for farming or will it come back?

I've had a farm accident and a stroke and returned to farm after. I wouldn't say I lost my passion for farming, but it certainly made me question what I was doing and what the actual point of it was.

I would say anxiety and stress levels dropped because I was actually questioning the validity of what I was doing. It made me look at others around me who were stressed and wonder what there problem was.

If you want to speak about anything just PM me.

Thanks. It's just that before the accident I was always planning for the future and loved farming. But atm I don't really have the Will power to continue on farming, but I don't want to disappoint my father in giving it up

I don't know him. But I'm sure your father just wants you to be happy. At 29 your young and plenty opportunities still open to you.

I know its really difficult when your in that hole with depression and can't see a way out. But I promise you things will improve. It's a great feeling when happiness actually returns. Even for a few seconds.

Theres some great people on this forum who will understand how you are feeling and will help you. You have taken a massive step posting this thread and putting your feelings out in the open.

did you have anxiety/depression but at a lower level before the accident?......or was it triggered by the cow incident?

you're in a good place here....many of us suffer/know what you're going thru:)
Yes I probably would have. I think part of it was also brought on by the lockdowns. I used to be able to Go out to young farmers and chat and get everything off my mind but then covid hit and I seen no one for nearly a year

You have been off work in these last 2 months? Is it possible that it is being at home 24/7 which is the root cause of the low mood (I hate the word 'depression', BTW) and anxiety?

Please try to seek some help, talking on here is good and you should consider it a first step.
There are several organisations you can call up for free who can help get you back on track and hopefully regain your original confidence and probably even build on that to feel better than ever before.

Martin.

Obviously I don't know your situation but do you take time out on the farm or countryside,
Walking a dog, going for a paddle in a stream, watching at the birds and anything else that you wouldn't normally do could give you time to relax and clear your mind.

Didn't really take time off because when it Happened it was first cut time, so I tried to do as much as I could. Was in the parlour again 5 days after the accident

Yep. That's that's the way the hospital had it down as
Do you think you may be having symptoms of PTSD?

Someone I know suffered in this way and it was to do with something you trusted suddenly turning to be a threat. Also having to cope with not being able to do things which you previously could.

Stressful situations can have all sorts of effects.

Ok, so you need to book some time off for starters and plan something fairly stressfree to do with that time. It need only be a week, 5 days at a push but you should get away from the farm/work and take some time for yourself. You are very fortunate if you have received no long lasting injuries. That kind of trauma isn't the kind of thing anyone will cope with lightly.

Sadly probably very little you could have done to change things
I tried to point out the positives when I spoke to him a week ago
and told him he had friends that cared .I knew he had serious problems
but I didn't think he would do this .I wish i hadn't been so knackered the last
few days and had chased him up but he was a strong willed character so I
just dont know.
