Merkel... time to speak

Are the CSU automatically tied to the CDU?

Afaik the CDU/CSU are the conservatives (Merkels lot), they were in coalition with the social democratic SPD (Schultz' party) who said after the election they are going into opposition.

Merkels CDU/CSU will now likely look to form a new coalition with the Free Democrats (FDP) and the Greens, the so called Jamaican coalition due to the parties colours.

Afd are billy no mates. No one else can make up the numbers if SPD do as they say they will.

Ah yes, but, you see... she isn't British, so they won't slag her off.
You never know,Teresa May might win for a forth term one day,and be elevated in history the same as Merkel will be.Thinking of that, who in Britain has won four elections;Gladstone maybe? Thatcher three, and your friend who probably would have won a forth,if not for Gordon Brown.

Surely Tony Blair would of won a forth? I always voted for him but couldn't bare the idea of voting for Gordon.

In Germany, what they actually said, or rather what Merkel said was she'd listen to afd voters and try to win them back. So I'm not quite sure where you're getting your information from.

I like being part of the EU as it sometimes provides an avenue to correct my own Government when it is working against my interests. Being outside of the EU I would have no such avenue.
Yes, I heard Merkel say that which is unsurprising as she is one of the best statesman of all time. I heard the quote on the news but I can't find it now.
I don't find the use of the EU to correct your own government as being necessarily a good thing. There are many times when benefits to society are greater than that of the individual. In the UK, we have the house of lords to serve that purpose anyway.

It's a citizens duty to lawfully attempt to correct wrongs as they see them being proposed or implemented by their Government. Due to our membership of the EU, part of that structure is conversing with the EU directly on matters which ones own Govt have failed, willfully or otherwise, to address satisfactorily. One would be foolish not to use such leverage when it's available.

As I said, we have the House of Lords that can serve that purpose.
The EU has been used to change things but I am not aware of any case that was significantly valid to outweigh the many cases I am aware of that are quite wrong.
I consider it to be similar to immunisation. It is best to not do it yourself but depend on everyone doing it so you are protected. It's a selfish attempt to put one's own rights above that of society.

But the Brexiteers don't like the House of Lords! Do they? Well if and when either the Lords or the high court judges lean even marginally against the Brexit wind, they both come in for some serious vitriol.
Enemies of the people sort of stuff. :banghead::sorry:

There's no HOL in Ireland.
