Looking to replace my Merlo
been a good machine, a bit under powered 100 hp version.
really like hydrostatic.
Had a brief try in new Bobcat 34.65 HF in dealers yard.
Quite impressed , transmission seemed noisy, dealer said it would quieten down after bedding in🤔
Seems well priced.

New Merlo seems much changed, more plastic, no ring of steel.

Any suggested options on 7 metre machines welcome, preferably hydrostatic.

Thanks

33.7 merlo had one since march, much happier than the previous 32.6 with the pia kubota engine

if money was no issue & i know they have paint issues which is a shame
id be looking at this
more so the Dual-Tech VT version
I'll try one myself one day.

Tier5 merlos when they come along are to have a redesigned joystick i was told at Lamma this year
I also agree the lesser ring of steel isnt as good & id much prefer them with that & no plastic mudguards

How do you get away with that dreadfull deadmans safety switch on there current joystick tho?
i hated it that much i parked the demo one i had a couple of years back & told dealer too take it away.
35.7cs here, don't mind the deadmans switch. Still haven't found a way of holding the joystick WITHOUT holding the trigger in too. :scratchhead: Old man and our worker complaind like hell about it when we got it and used to put a elastic band round holding it in, I just kept taking it off. They soon gave over with the rubber band and stopped complaining....

We have one and I love the new joystick, with the forward/reverse buttons on it every control can then be managed with the one hand.Took me a while, mind, but you get accustomed to the arrangement it becomes a big improvement.

The demo Merlo that's just turned up here has a little green button that you press on startup and it disables all the safety guff.

Yep, I know.
The overload Key on my classic 28.7 is perm set too off as it go's off when it shouldnt on muck & often when loading wagons with grain, more so when you heaping it up in the shed of course
so sorry Big Brother i will operate my telehandler as i see fit, no one else drives it am its my business & my machine.
Yes its checked annually for LOLER via Ins Co.
34yrs operating telehandlers & not tipped one yet.
I couldnt get used to that awkward hand grip with that safety switch that afaik has no need too be there.

Had a couple of hours driving the 35.7 this afternoon. After using a Manitou JSM it's like going back in time a decade, the proportions of the joystick are all wrong. I have to stretch to reach the telescope roller, everything is on the thumb, the rollers have sharp corners and the button direction change is just silly.

The foot throttle is hard work to say the least, I'm knackered from driving so carefully, it doesn't flow like a TC. I've got it for a few more days but I can't see us going that shade of green, and the other green can't decide which rep is coming to see us!

3 years ago we swapped a 32.6 for a JCB 536-60. The JCB is not perfect but streets ahead in build quality over the merlos.
I thought the 33.7 we had on demo was plain dangerous with push button forward reverse controls. The joystick was poorly laid out and the over ride beeping drove me demented!
Thought I would miss the hydro but you get used to a torque converter, it is harder to manoeuvre but much better with a trailer on.
The final consideration is second hand value, the JCB was 5% or so more expensive but the second hand price will more than make up for it

I haven't done anything with Merlos but I would steer clear of Claas. It's a poor machine, bad build quality, poorly laid out cab, uncomfortable to drive the joy stick is too low but also not low enough so you tend to lean over all the time and the peddles are in the wrong place too far forward so it is quite jerky to drive, the hydraulics are fast but also jerky and the gearbox is a disaster I hate hydrostats at the best of times but this one is bad. But on the plus side it is cheap the air con is good and it has good lights.

Is that the new liebherr built ones or the old kramer ones.
