Merlo Headstock greasing

Morning All,

Spent a while reading Merlo threads on here but can't pinpoint the but I need.

Got a 28.7KT and can't for the life of me work out how you're meant to grease the headstock main pin, boom to headstock?

Its got a black rubber cover on the cab side which has a hole in and evidence of grease but I can't feel a nipple (lol) through the hole!

Other side where the tie rod and tilt ram has a grease nipple.

Surely the main pin isn't a non greasable bushing?

Also got a creaking from the back of the boom, its just had new pins and compensator ram - guess these aren't greasable either 😂

Really appriciate any advice, cheers

Alot of the merlo pins are not greaseable :X3: I have drilled main lift ram and added grease nipples before and taken out the blanking grub screws out of the comp ram and fitted a greae nipple (on the comp ram may need to run a drill though the plastic bush)

Thanks for your quick replies, really appreciate it.

I kept searching and couldn't find anything, so I took the rubber cover off and the pin isn't drilled (hole is just a centre but doesn't go anywhere)

The pin is dated a lot newer than the machine so I think it's been replaced.

Inside the rubber cover there was a washer floating about with a bit of thread (potentially for a nipple?), but no nipple.

Any ideas? Is the pin for a machine with a nipple on the boom? When I googled the part numbers they don't look to be drilled.

Only other thing I can see is a big bolt (bit like the headstock stop bolts) in the centre of the main pivot tube. But it's just an Allen head with a locknut, I don't think anything stops against it.

Cheers

I think that hex nut is what holds the pin in? its possible someone made there own pin that doesnt ha a grease way in it or something?
i dont think the grease need to get to the centre of the pin were the hex bolt is as its fixed in that part and doesnt pivot there.

The main pin is secured in the boom neck with grub screw. Then the grease cap is filled and the pressure works it into bushes as it’s rotated. The other side should have a grease nipple to grease the other bushes. The final one is on the bottom it the crowd ram to grease those bushes

Ah!

Makes more sense now. I fitted a new grease nipple in the rubber cap (the "floating" washer had the right thread to clamp a nipple) and filled with grease :).

Thanks again for all your help, don't think I'd have worked that one out!
