Why have the Met Office ruined a perfectly good website with their recent changes to its layout?. If it isn't broken then don't fix it!. Anybody else found it frustrating?.
Yes, I filled in the feedback form to say so, I would hope everyone will do likewise. The new layout is awful. Its too big, you see too little information on any one screen, its not obvious which day you're looking at, whoever designed that layout needs a large size 12 boot up their backside, and sacking as well.
So glad it's not just me then. Cannot get the "last 24 hrs " page to work at all. Also keeps telling me there's no data for Prestwick ( it's a Naval Air Station for heaven's sake ).
From experience last year, the Met Office hasn't a clue about population centres or population densities in rural Devon, despite being based in Exeter.
I desperately needed forecasts for my part of the county before and during the Beast from the East, but couldn't find anything for this parish or neighbouring - bit of a micro climate here.
It really did look as their information is unattached to Real World weather stations and Ordinance Survey, and superimposed on google maps instead - which, at local level shows only non-farming businesses and some vague idea of settlements, which is as accurate for location as sticking a pin in an old paper Yellow Pages.
That was their system for mobiles!
Edit to add: No improvement noticed on the improved site. Same ridiculous locations offered - one's a beach, which is rather closer in altitude to sea level than here, and neither of the nearest places are settlements.
I complained via the official form and got a reply from their 'customer service' desk
"Dear Will,
Thank you for your email. For now, we're recommend downloading our app to use that instead and please could you raise feedback via the feedback form on the website as this will be submitted directly to our digital team for review. Thanks for your cooperation.
Makes you wonder if their idea of customer service is to tell people to fill in another form until they give up! Hey presto, no complaints so everybody must be happy!
Oh good I've found others that agree the new Met Office web site is a retrograde step. The new layout just takes up more screen space to display the same or even less information than before. You can't customise it to show the rows of data that you are interested in and leave out the ones (like feels like) that I don't want. Finally even on my 17" laptop screen if I scroll down to see the UV data row I lose the Time row off the top of the screen. How daft is that ?
Its all been done in the interests of people browsing the website on a mobile phone - google keeps sending me messages saying the website I manage has too small text and the links and icons are too close together to select on a mobile. But hang on a minute - on my iPhone I tend to use an app that is custom designed for mobile use, on my laptop I want all the data nice and compact so I can see it all at once and notice trends.
They will never listen to us the users who are really interested in the weather - there is not enough of us and they would have to admit their new website does not serve us well. They are just going for the masses who want to know if it will be "Sunny and Bright" and what the "Feels like" temperature will be.
I have given feedback and asked to at least be able to have to old layout as an option in settings or something.
