Metacam for sheep?

Can I use metacam for pain relief in sheep if so how much? Vet dropped massive triplets out the side door of a particularly big ewe last week, poor old girl looks abit uncomfortable. (Understandable) have only got metacam will have to get something else if not suitable.

Metacam or Flunixin, both good NSAID that work well on sheep (though neither are licenced for their use)

Flunixin rate is 1ml per 25kg

Asked vet about this the other week, it's called the cascade system. No pain relief products are licensed for sheep so under cascade you can use drugs approved for silmilar animals. Metacam is one they use but loxicom is another they have used here in the past, apparently it's a bit cheaper?

I was told by vet 1ml per 40kg and repeat after three days if necessary.

Told the same thing here, sheep metabolise it quicker than cattle (4 day re-treatment)

I keep the bottle on a 2ml auto gun and use it for any difficult lambings and prolapses.

Lambs with joint ill get 0.2 ml

I tend to use 1ml per 25kg in sheep having spoken to the drug company a few years ago. It is higher than the cattle dose rate (2.5ml/100kg).

I'm not especially convinced by the duration of action claims. I'm quite happy repeating every other day if needed.

Flunixin is a more powerful anti-inflammatory but has a very short half life. I only use it for toxic animals IV, otherwise I find meloxicam (Metacam/Loxicom etc) or carprofen (Rimadyl, Carprieve) are superior in both cattle and sheep.

All off licence so you should go with what the prescribing vet says....

I've got Rheumocam 20mg/ml here. Would that be the same dose as above? & it says on the bottle give to cattle sub cut but to pigs I/m - which would it be in sheep?
Thanks
