@lee2503 being where I am i am surrounded by fields but we don't have a local pub as such with being so close to Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, so that for me is not an option and the nearest beaches for me are 30 miles by road and I know through Facebook, there are 35 detectoriest in that area so I have to travel 45 miles further up he coast for he quieter beaches, however I have 2 problems. The first I need a licance for crown land ( which I have ) and being that it's so far out of the way of everybody, there isn't many finds. Also another problem for me is mineralisations along the beaches. Coal and iron pleage the beaches this far north so any busy beaches are fought over.

I really do wish you luck on your travels and that one of these wonderful people give you a chance and you get a permission somewhere.

For me, I think it will be beach work as I'm not going to waste 250 quid on my detector and not use it.

Good luck !

Just a thought for you if you are wanting to earn money from it (which I don't blame you in the slightest)
Have you tried to contact lets go digging. Com? Google it and see if they would want to arrange something with you they do rallies and the like.
You wouldn't earn much from me been a one man band I'm not a member of a group.
But if I don't get any success from anywhere local I might have to take the plunge and come up, it's nice to meet people and at least you have offered which most that have posted or read have not so thanks for that.

LGD are a registered business (they have been on here briefly) they do cream off a profit from the dig fee and their in-house catering. Sadly the business model is doomed to failure as there are 1. Too many groups/clubs. 2. Not enough detectorists. 3. Lots of ticked off farmers. :)

Thanks for the swift reply at least the thread is getting busy which may in turn help with permissions.
Your club opened well before I was born and in fairness I didn't even think before I decided on this hobby what it would entail. There was me thinking I could go down to the local park how wrong I turned out to be.

I don't suppose your club is yorkshire based by any chance? I have emailed a few local clubs and they have not even got the courtesy to reply.
That's the main hurdle I have come across local councils are not interested other detectorists don't want to share and getting permissions is near on impossible.
Re lets go digging I found them on google by chance I don't know nothing about them apart from they seem to have a few digs on none around yorkshire though. The farmer responses on there seem like it was a good club.but has a newbie I don't really know much so thanks for clearing that up. Do you have any yorkshire digs lined up has I would love to meet other enthusiasts

I'm not looking to make a fortune. Just a few quid to help out. I charge other people for using my land e.g. livery, outdoor arena hire, building rents, so this shouldn't be different. As I said before, we only have 7 acres. The fields either have horses in them or they are resting so I don't want dozens of people trampling all over them - or parking cars on them! One or two is fine. Give me a shout if you want to come up.

Just noticed your post where you say you are near Newcastle? Not sure if you've been right back through this thread but we're at the West end of Newcastle, just into Northumberland. As per my previous posts. If you're happy with £5 per person per hour (refundable if you hit the jackpot) and all paperwork is in order, drop me a direct message and we can sort something out. Thanks.

@Farmer996 Hello,

your to the west of Newcastle? I'm in prudhoe, so hopefully not far away.

As for paperwork, what paperwork would you want to see please? As ive said before I have not joined any clubs ect, I was thinking of joining the ncmd but I'm not sure if that is what you mean.

Thank you for your very very kind offer, however my wife is the only one that drives and she is awaiting a double hip replacement so getting to you may well be difficult for me, however I maybe able to organise getting there with another detectoriest if that's okay with you?

Thanks for the reply mate,I was just having tea and had to stop posting.

I have read your post u made and I see getting out and about is important for you.
I too want to get out but just for a bit of fitness I go to the park but it soon gets boring walking round in circles.
At least when your out detecting it's a fun day out and gets you in the fresh air.and hopefully find some history at the same time.
I'm from leeds and I'm struggling finding local village pubs too, I'm having to travel to the back I Huddersfield/Bradford which is around 30 miles each way but I have all but given up on finding a permission any closer. The beach for me is around 60/70 mile so anywhere closer is a bonus.
The other problem is I would need a few permissions has I would want to go at least once a week and I understand the farm would not want you going every week has they like privacy too.
Im still to find anything decent I'd love to find some old coinage roman ect that I see other people post they have found.
Have you found anything on the beaches?

So far I have found 5 buried bbq's 3 world war 2 7.62mm shell casings, 4.80 in coins and 23 tin cans, 12 nails and 19 bottle tops lol

I have a Viking vk40 so a fairly modern machine and track the loose sand. The best find so far was a silver bracelet a 9 year old lost whist playing on the beach and was in tears, mum approached me and showed me the rough area where she playing and after 20 mins I had a very shallow target, I called the little girl over and showed her where I thought it was and she dug it up and was crying she was so happy! That gave me a real buzz I have to admit.

@Hightower73. We're about 10 minutes drive from Prudhoe. Not that I'm trying to sell it or anything but we're half a mile from Hadrian's Wall and the same distance from where a hoard of coins was found, albeit on the other side of the wall. Pretty much exclusive use and two of you would be OK. Paperwork - we can draw something basic up until you get organised. Send me a direct message with your number and I'll give you a call tomorrow or at the weekend. Thanks.

I've been a detectorist for years n years, (mostly beach detecting) and own my own farm, but even I would have to think twice about letting strangers detect on my farm. It's nothing personal it's just like letting someone loose in your back garden.
Here's a bit of advice, I'm sure your nice chaps or gals but you need to get to know the farmers first then you will get somewhere. I would go to the local pubs in the area for a few weeks and get to know a few people and also for them to get to know you. Tell them what you do and show them some finds and bobs your uncle you will get somewhere. It's not that the farmers are anti detectorists, it's just you need to know the person properly before trusting them.
Good luck and I hope a sovreign or two come your way.

@YorkshireAndrew

Hi your more my way by the sound of your username would you be interested in allowing me on your land? Or would you know anyone that would local?
I can't stress enough that I'm legit and don't bring a team of guys- I would work by myself and share all findings.
I would be willing to drive and meet you or any other farmers for a face to face chat and haggle a deal out draw a contract up and show my paper work if your happy then detect on dates agreed afterwards.
I knew it would be hard work getting permissions but I'm starting to loose sleep over it now lol.
Like I have said I would say I'm a down to earth legit detector and I'm open to having conditions met in order to gain a permission.

Sorry I can't help you out as it's against my tenancy conditions .

That made me chuckle finding the barbecues just shows you that people that go to the beach are not really bothered for taking there rubbish home
But I suppose it was rewarding for you returning the bracelet you found for the girl.you see good things can come from the hobby too.
Since been a newbie I haven't found has much has you some small change a few ring pulls and a fair bit of tin foil. I did find some Victorian coins in my families garden all using a friends detector that's what made me think I would like to get out and do this sometime.
All the best with your detecting I hope you go on to find loads

Thanks for your input exactly what you said was
Told to me on a metal detecting
Forum and that's what I intend to do.
I think trust is built more than just a one off meeting though.i can imagine all the farmers hiding lol me preying at the bar waiting for one unlucky one to pop in for a pint and I jump all over him.
I don't want to come across has pushy and that I want anything for nothing.
I was even thinking of putting a poster up in local village shops but I suppose that's the same has posting on here.
If I can get out and have a few chats firs impressions count and I do have paperwork to back up what I'm saying hopefully then il get a chance. I just don't want them thinking "look that's that weirdo bloke who wants to come and dig iron out of my fields again.
I suppose it's always going to be hard been from a city and the like.
Thanks for replying with your views anyway the more the better

I have to be honest I love beach detecting, not so much inland. The harder the beach the better the fun trying to find the goodies for me.
Remember, plenty of stuff on the beach, you just got to be in the right place to find it.
Good hunting.

Any tips for a newbie regarding the beach? Was thinking east coast anywhere from Whitby down to the wash.
But where everyone goes eg Whitby I'm just gonna find a load of modern stuff ok if u want to find a bit of money or modern jewellery that some one as unfortunately lost but nothing too old.
I'm looking ideally for roman/Celtic aged finds.
In fairness I wouldn't know where to start and also haven't the beaches been done every other day for years?

Thanks for replying.

This is why people give up on beaches, they see people with detectors all over the beach but it doesn't mean they are finding old stuff, just newer coins.
I'm from west wales and we have loads of beaches on the coast, but I usually only go to the same two as I know them.
It takes years to learn a beach and where the finds gather. There is one particular spot that I always find goodies that's only around 12 ft by 12ft. It took me ages to find that, no one else has found it either. There are areas that are lower than the beach that finds gather in and as I said above they can be small, or large.
A beach is constantly changing and at certain times of the year the sand covers everything up and it's hard work, other times it will remove sand and you will find the older finds on the harder pack below. On February the 17th there is a super low tide and you can detect where others havnt for most of the year this will bring you more rings and gold and older finds.
My biggest tip is this though, many give up on beaches because they can't find jewellery like they see on forums, ( most of it is bullshiting and the same old rings turn up over and over again ) so if your down at the low tide mark all the time and don't find things you will get down and give up. I like to dry sand just to keep finds coming and also go to very hard places to detect, like stone beaches. Most don't bother with these as it's hard going, but my best silver ring came off a very stony beach.
Best tip of all keep it fun and just enjoy being there, I rarely get time off from the farm so every moment at the beach is like a mini holiday for me and sometimes I find stuff and sometimes I don't, but it doesn't matter as I enjoy it.
Ps, minelabs don't false on wet sand, garret at pro hopeless on wet sand good in dry sand and on land. I use a sovreign gt, e trac, and Quattro ( older version of safari) this will go as deep as the others, but it's noisy to use for more than a few hours. E trac best all rounder but my favourite it the sovreign gt.

I agree I use a Viking vk40 which has a brilliant depth on dry sand 14-16 inches on a rusty nail, however get it near water and it bleeps like mad, even lifting and dropping the coil a mm makes it bleep however, put it on all metal and 50 discrimination and 85 sensitivity and its ok if you take it very slowly. Each detector behaves differently. The best places for finds is high up the beach where people gather, mainly coins and junk. If your wanting older finds it has to be inland I'm afraid or special times of the year/events like huge storms as banjo suggests.
