Metal farm gate theft

Large amounts of metal farm gates have recently been stolen around Derbyshire.
Unlikely to be sold for scrap as the price is poor.
So anyone selling secondhand gates could be selling stolen items. Chances are they will have moved to a totally different area to move them on.

We have had footpath gates stolen in the last few days.

Invert top hinge, 'muller' the threads, paint on your post code on inside hinge side. Die stamp if possible. Padlock with chain both ends. Wrap top with barbed wire if not right of way/hunting country. Any other remedies welcomed.

I think we should all consider painting the farm name on gates and similar items. Makes them far more difficult to sell and easier for police to check if legitimate.
One method I see buying used is the postcode being metal punched into the gate ,take a picture of its location in case it is grinded off

Elec gates being nicked around here so some people are unearthing them at night. Can be done with an insulated switch.
