Metal strainers and gate posts into rock

I need to put in a metal field gate (only 4ft) and a clipex end strainer to finish off a bit of fencing I've been doing but the ground where I need them to go appears to be only about 10" soil and then solid bedrock. Any ideas as to the best way to sink metal posts into/onto rock please?

I'm a wee girl so won't be chiselling any 4ft holes . Was trying to avoid having to get someone in with a tractor but sounds like the quickest way, thanks.

It's a metal post yeah? Dig a hole by hand down onto the rock - bigger as the metal post... and concrete it in. 10inch will be more as enough depth.

If you have a decent generator or can get an electric supply near enough ,hire one of these

No electric, and up a big steep hill .
I know now why there are so many dry stone walls around my new place ... just a shame the previous occupants let them all fall down, would take me months to put them back together again.

Go to a builders merchant you can buy 20kg bags of pre-mixed cement and concrete or Postcrete. All you do is add water... Postcrete is quick setting so once mixed you've to work fast.

10" surely can't be deep enough for a strainer though, even in concrete?

it's still a strainer post so i'm guessing yer got a fence being strained off it
for a post in the fence jack hammer just a tad smaller than post and thump it in
end strainer ummmm if it's good hard bed rock a thumper and spike will do nothing know any one with a blasting ticket 1/4 -1/2 a stick of powergel will bust it up
kanga hammer good for makeing holes to put power gel in or wasteing time in areas yer can't blast

The concrete will (should!!) bond to the rock.

But if the post is 8inch dia. make the hole 24inch dia at least. Give it a good wide footing.

It's a clipex strainer so ~75mm wide I think. Will that bond hold good for years or will it degrade with cold / water etc?

If you use the postfix it wont degrade ,water wont bother it and the cold wont touch it
