Just wondering for those who have had turbines installed how has it performed against the wind speed you were predicted? Is everyone who has been up and running for a while happy with performance or are they falling short of expectations?

We only have a dinky toy really , an Evance r9000 a 5kw machine. The figure we had when buying, on a wind speed of about 6m/s, were that it should do around 12,000kw/h pa from one supplier down to 10,000 from another, its first year it did 10,500 , on course this year for about 12,000. So doing what we expected really.

What I don't understand is that now at 6ms it is expected to do over 15,000,. I think that is to make the figures stack up with 21p kw FIT, now against the 30p we had two years ago.

You seen gwarffynons one no wind at all today but it was turning at a fair speed

Have not seen it yet its only been up a week or so I think, Its an endurance e120 same as Caerllugest, they operate at 48rpm apparently, our little one goes like a bat out of hell in comparison! the Caerllugest one was on stop for 3 or 4 days last week, and in those high winds we had last month it shuts down. The little evance has no cut out speed, it did over 1500kw last month, best month since its been up

Penmoel, can I ask what you paid for the turbine and ancillaries?

Just under £30k. In addition to the FIT payment and the Export tariff we also have use of the power which has taken about 50% of our utility bill.

Just found this website which may interest you http://www.variablepitch.co.uk/stations/
I have looked at a couple of Endurance E3120 turbines locally, from their data one has produced £56k in FIT the other £8k must be some mix up in figures

Idiotic question alert...

Why dont these turbines have a brake so it can still operate in high winds but at a safe rpm??

The blades on the Evance "feather" in the wind as it gets stronger to stop it over speeding, but with no gearbox it can run at over 200rpm

a note of caution about the variable pitch website , now I don't know who runs it nor why , but it is about as truthful and accurate as a tesco meat buyers inventory

I could not fathom the figures or reason for it either, somebody with an ulterior motive no doubt

I am interested to know who has rated the site at 6.5m/s ?? If it is a wind survey or a neighbouring turbine that's fine, if it is a website be very cautious.
The data I've got is from earthmill on a 30m hub
noable 6.53m/s
ncic 6.64m/s
wind scout 5.91m/s
aws 6.79m/s
average 6.47m/s

our noable figure was 5.8m/s from memory. first year we probably averaged 4.5m/s. It has been better for the last 6 months tho. Turbines up 20 months.

Probably. We use half the power we generate which makes a big difference. We have two CF20 machines and they generated 40,000 kw each for first year. did budgets on 45,000 hoped for nearer 50,000. FiT at 25p

Virtual met mast (google it) is supposed to be good and fairly accurate. costs a bit though.

Hoping longer term production will be a bit higher.
