MF 135 Hydraulic Filter correct configuration

Just replacing the old paper filter which I found on the hydraulic pump of my 1971 Massey Ferguson 135 diesel. Should be straightforward but the devils in the detail!!

I tried a Sparex filter with rubber ends but this was slightly too large to fit in the filter housing - I couldn't screw the housing onto the pump . I've now bought an Agco steel mesh strainer (oem 1687042M91) which my local Massey Ferguson dealer supplied. This has a metal cap at each in end. One of the ends has a thick paper of card glued to it, and a large 7mm thick rubber washer came with it. But the dealer did not know which way it fits into the filter housing. I've attached pictures of the housing (two metal cups that the filter goes into first) and of the new filter and of where the housing sits at the side of the pump. At the moment there is a thin rubber o ring on pump base where the filter housing sit but this doesn't seem to achieve anything as the o ring is too thin to meet up with the housing when its screwed on. The trouble is I have found some old t20 parts on the tractor as well so I can't be sure that what I find on the tractor is original and correct. So first of all, is the filter housing (the two metal cups) the right housing for my tractor? If so, looking inside the housing there are thinnish recesses inside which the old paper filter fitted in, but the supposedly correct Sparex or Agco filters don't fit into. Then turning to that thin o ring on the pump which the filter housing sits on - is it the wrong one? Should I remove it and put the large rubber washer there that came with the agco filter - certainly the housing sits better on that washer than the thin o ring thats there at the moment. Or does the thick agco washer fit inside the two housing cups at one end of the filter - and which end of the filter goes at the top. Any help appreciated.
