MF-135 - Please HELP! - fergy not starting - see video.

Hi Fellow Fergie Fans (FFF).

I hope someone can help.
After some rotary hoeing I stopped for a break & then the thing wouldn't start again. (first time that ever happened).
The most likely reason is a loose wire near the starter motor and I'm not certain where it should be connected to.
Some other wires that are behind the dash also aren't connected.

I guess wiring can be different between model variations and modifications over the years - but I'm hoping someone might have a starter motor setup similar to mine and have some clear directions.

If you have a minute to check out the video I would appreciate if you're sure you have an answer.
I have my own guesses but I don't want to stick any wires in the wrong place and burn anything out.

Thanks for taking the time to look anyway.

Have a look at the bit of solder?
Is there a link to the large terminal going into the starter (large one on bottom of solenoid)? If so the wire Does Not go there.
If there is no link, hold the wire on the solder and go for a start, with the stopped pulled.

Otherwise, take the small inner most wire off the solenoid (pushed on next the engine block) and with the stopped pulled connect the terminal to the large wire coming down form the battery, the engine should crank?
If so you have a wiring issue, if it does not crank you have a starter motor issue.

Do all work in Neutral with the stopped pulled

You cant put the smoke back into the wires, so If in doubt ask ........

Take it out of gear, try a short jumper cable from the top large terminal (the one thats attached to the battery) to the small terminal at the back close to the engine block, that should try to throw in the solenoid and start the engine.

The operation wire is connected on the solenoid!
Get a test light and see if the operating wire comes live first when key is switched and work your way back
My guess is that's a live feed upto the switch so hold that terminal on the main live and then turn the key with stopper out of course and in neutral.

Has the spare wire dropped off the thermostart? Where is the thermostart on a 135? On a 35 it's exactly where that wire would reach to hidden by the bonnet side. If it is that wire then it may have shorted when turning the key and blow a fuse

I don't think that wire has anything to do with the starter. As already said it could be from the inlet manifold heat plug, or fuel tank sender unit even.

If the op has taken advise on crossing the starter and it works, then I'd look at safety start switch on gear lever or ignition switch operation / wiring.

The wire seems to short for heater plug

It's the live feed to ign key
Looking at the rest of the wiring who ever wired it didn't have much of an idea of say

If it is, where should it be connected? the terminal is too small for the main battery terminal, unless there's another terminal point out of sight.

Being there and seeing the wire colours would help obviously.

I would think if the wire to the thermostart plug is missing it likely goes on it, on our 77 135 it's only just above the lift pump so would reach with a little unravelling. Looks like the loom has been messed about with quite a bit.
Safety switch has been bypassed with the 2 wires linked together.

Some starters the solder part comes live it will of been attached there at a guess
Mainly see it on skid steers when people have been having issues

I could be wrong, but tractor was working fine bumpy ground wire drops off won't start one loose wire won't reach heater plug without unrolling so it has to be a live pick up to the switch dash area

Unless it's a coincidence and the starter has stuck in and burnt out

He needs to test for lives really rather than just guessing we can suggest all pkssposs causes from our armchairs 1000s of miles away
I'm just trying to be logic for him

Solder tab if strapped to the large starter solenoid terminal (I cant be sure from the image) gives the pull-in coil in the solenoid an earth, until the starter fires up.

Yes, think it was to bypass the ballast resistor on the 8Volt ignition coil when you go for a start (petrol).
Had it other applications?
