I have a MF 290 destined for feeder wagon duty next winter and would have liked to put trailer brakes on it. Is it possible? The brakes on it at the minute are rod activated non hydraulic (no brake fluid reservoir)
TIA

yes it is possible but it will be expensive unless you can get s/h parts. you will need to fit a trigger valve in one of the brake pull rods to activate the trailer brake valve. used to fit them on 500 series and i believe ford 10 series used them too.

well tap the brake pipe into the tipping pipe, and use the pressure control to work the brakes, will need a bigger return spring on the brake ram on feeder wagon to hold it off, more the leaver up to apply the brakes, and to the bottom to let them off,
the more you lift the leaver the more pressure it will put to the brakes, very controllable
Good enough idea but I would like them on the pedal so it's idiot proof.

Done this with my 298. Works well.
