MF 35 oil.

Well it should be mineral engine oil SAE 30.
I have to admit not knowing what hy-guard properties are and having looked them up it sounds like it might be OK. If it is a fancy restored tractor that's a bit precious you should go and buy the right stuff. If it is a working tractor that you just want to keep going and already have the hy-guard then stick it in and hope for the best. I doubt it will kill it any more than the watery looking mess that mine keeps going on.

Here's another question.
If you use the advised mineral SAE30 oil and use the tractor to tip a trailer, then go and tip the same trailer with your JD the oil will get mixed. Will the SAE30 harm the JD more than the hy-guard harms the 35?
And if it did which would cost most to fix?

It's an on going project! Just drained the "milk" out the back end so could remove half shaft to replace lower link pins, all back together. Was thinking about running for a while then changing oil again to try and get rid of as much of the crap as possible!

Tractor will only be used for a bit of topping and ploughing matches. But to answer your question the small amount of different oil I don't think would effect the jd as it has around 140 litres and the regular servicing will stop the oil becoming contaminated. The oil I have has done 1500 hours in our crawler and has come out as clean as it was when it went in.

Put the hygaurd in use it abit the modern oil has detergent in so it will flush clean out the milky crap but a dear way
Then put the sae 30 it thicker the hygaurd will be thin the pump might not run as efficient takes alot to these old girls

It's not dear when the oil is free! I have tried to get as much out as possible but sounds like the modern oil will get most of what's left. Thanks for the info.

When I had a 135 from new in 1965 I used Agricastrol Multi-use in the engine and hydraulics. This was one of the recommended oils and I'm sure Hy-Gard would be perfectly alright, I'd rather do that than having SAE 30 in my JD.

P.S. This tractor was bought by my father, I'm not that old!

I would be hesitant about putting hygyard in and it cleaning out the pump faces and valves too much making them not work properly. Maybe ok if you've fitted a new pump. But I wouldn't otherwise. I'd be far happier putting a universal oil throughout the entire tractor

I've had Hygard in my IH475 and IH414 got 8 years and they are OK. Not in the engines of course, I use Plus 11 same as the John Deeres.
