MF 50EX FARMHANDLER DRIVE PROBLEM

everyone who has them loves them but what to replace with as theyre getting old now?
a solid boom pivot in midlle style machine?
a pivot in middle machine but extendable?
a solid chassis telehandler! < ex men seem to hate these!
or a loader tractor?

all at what cost £££££
just look after the grease and grease and oil it will last years look at all the problems with the more modern machinery theirs no error codes on a mf 50

its done odds and sods joints in end of axles, loader is just offering to crack in places think engine is a bit under powered to what it used to be and not starting quite as good as it used to got to heat it. but your not wrong look after what you've got

I bought one in October as a winter project but haven't had the time to do anything with it yet, the hydraulic oil in the loader looked like coffee when I changed it, the return filter still had the original (30yr old) seal on it, whoever has had it did look after it but could have maybe spent a little bit more!!

Interesting machines alright, I remember reading somewhere that MF intended the 50EX especially for farms but for some reason then decided to sell them through their construction/industrial dealers and missed out on a lot of agricultural sales.
Don't know how true that is though.

The forward reverse issue is most likely a wire loose somewhere.
I have done thousands of hours of our HX which is basically the same underneath and the wiring was always a bloody pain, The EX would have a dump switch on the gear lever and also on the main loader joystick. Almost definitely the wiring to these levers or the crap switches that is the problem.
Assuming the starter itself is ok the starting issue is probably the safety start switch on the gear lever mechansim, ours has needed a wriggle on the gear handle for ever.

Ours could and still does lift 3 ton with the pallet forks on. She'll lift 6 500kg bags off the ground to bale trailer height no bother. Think the crowd rams would leak down if it was a pallet type lift though.
I wouldn't actually do 3ton as I reckon its far too hard on the front axle. Just tried her one day to see.
That old MFs are hard as nails, ours is about 20000hrs and engine though real rattlely has never been touched, and the shuttle and hyd pump are original too.:cool::cool:

Mine doesn't have a counterweight, does anyone know where I could come across one? Maybe someone somewhere is breaking one? Or a modern alternative... how heavy would it have to be??

you could try ken barber 01594 861050, one from a 50B etc loading shovel could be made to fit but they are heavier

I have a 1989 MF 50EX FARM HANDLER , which is a brilliant loader tractor for me but I am having a few issues with it at the moment and was hoping someone may have a few ideas what is the problem/problems ,
firstly the forward shuttle has started playing up and only works intermittently , when it doesn't work if you shake the loader it sometimes works , the other problem is starting , it starts everyone so often first time , other times you turn the key and there is nothing there , I realise it is an old machine but to me it is such a good loader tractor that it is invaluable to me , so any advice is really appreciated as I would like to get her up and running .

Check the torque charge pump which is fitted to the front right hand side of the engine these play up causing your symptoms.
I’ve worked on a number of MF diggers doing the same.

Plenty over here but the shipping would be severe ...........
Unless you know someone coming over for the holidays, with an empty boot?
