Hi what are peoples opinions on massey 5455 dyna 4 tractors. There is one in at a local dealer, wouldn’t be getting used hard, round baler biggest thing it would need to run. Currently have a 5465 but wanting to swap it for a smaller 4cyl with a loader.

Had an early 5455 droppy nose from new paid £35k in 2006. Biggest money pit ever, 3 head gaskets as engine couldn’t stay cool baling, gearbox, hyd pumps and damper rebuild/replaced at 5,500 despite regular servicing. Aircon cost a fortune to have fixed. Glad to see the back of it at 7,800 hrs. By comparison the tmr 6420 we have is approaching 19,000 hrs and is largely untouched bar a replacement front diff.

Pluses, brilliant as a loader tractor and yard duties with cows, would do over 32 hrs on a tank in the winter. Sticking to JD and Fendt now.

I'd stick a loader on the 5465. My six cylinder tractor has a loader on and works the yards fine. Maybe if you only have 60lpm hydraulics a big loader would be a smidgin slow lifting perhaps, but not frustratingly so. I think my NH is about 80lpm and its plenty fast enough with a big Quicke loader up front.

Have a 11 plate one here occasionally use a 2000 gallon tanker on it on some steep ground just have to be carefull. Feeds up every morning. It did do the damper which did quite a bit damage, would love a 5480 instead of but it's such a handy tractor and has plenty of guts we don't want to get rid

5465 tier 2 or 3, t2 with the slimmer bonnet wouldnt be too bad with a loader but the t3 may be a bit of a barge.Same as with the 5470 t2 bonnet much better than the fat wine drinkers t3 nose (was the 5470 available in t3 or just the 6470 )A 6470 t2 would be a nice tractor with loader but finding one may be difficult

I thought they only introduced the 5470 and 5480 tractors when they facelifted and went T3/Sisu from the Perkins of the earlier ones. The 5465 was previously the range topping 6 cylinder model and everything else was a 4 cylinder. The 5460 seems a very similar size to the 5465 only not as long, but the 5455 and below seem a bit smaller from what I've seen.

You would obviously have a wide beam loader on the T3. In fact I would advise fitting the wide beam version on T2 even though the narrow beam would fit. Not sure what the wide versions are called these days but the Quicke versions used to be 'UM'. I have no issues whatsoever with a UM loader fitted to the equally wide bonnet NH 8360.

The 5480 was only available in tier 3 but the 5470 was in tier 2 and 3. I think he would be disappointed in the tier 2 5455 compared to the 5465 he is running at the moment.
