Mf 5465 front axle knocking

Got a 2006 mf 5465 when you let your foot off the brake the front axle knocks/jolts/jumps. I guess this is when it is disengaging 4x4? Any idea what’s causing it to do this? Hoping it will just been a worn pin or bush or something !

Most 4wd drive tractors do it on concrete/tarmac because of the 4 wheel braking system which causes them to bite on hard surfaces

It does it in the field too, defo shoudnt to the degree it is, can hear it from quite far away aswel

Have a look at the collar on the 4 wheel drive shaft. Splines wear and slip round on the shaft, going down the road flat out and it can sound like a machine gun going off underneath you!!!

Have a mf 5712 with loader started to do that .when you apply brakes and turn at same time when you release brakes there Loud bang then tractor jumps sideways slightly .thought it was tyres as fronts were slightly bald but no different when fitted new ones dealer been out twice cannot find anything wrong .have 4 other masse this is the only one that does it

Thought my tractor had got some serious failure once with loud banging etc, guard was loose that protects the 4wd shaft!

We had a 5460 that did just the same never did find an explanation or a cure unfortunately

im sure I read about it before Somewhere but I can’t find it, was something about a bush I’m sure

My John deere 6400 does this as well.

As previously mentioned, most/all tractors do this to some degree. Changing the front axle oil may help, use JD Hygard/ Morris XEP 80/90 or similar.
Jack the tractor up and make sure the front axle centre pivot bushes are in good order, any play there will make it knock on disengagement..

It’s normaly the splines worn on front axle pinion

I think You could modify the wiring to hold off 4wd
braking and just switch it on for road work.

5445 just a fuse to take out makes it a different tractor if only it was possible with the 64 series just neeed to stop before you turn really!!!!

Recently changed the alternator on mine as it was running below voltage, after changing this the knock has gone, so I’m assuming it was something to do with whatever disengages 4wd that didn’t like running below it’s normal voltage!!!

Took the brake fuse out of our 6499 and it did away with 4wd braking

No this can not be done, you have to drive so you do not need the brakes on the road to stop it making the noise
