MF 6265 Sooty air filter

The engine air intake filter on my 2000 MF6265 is getting sooted up. I’ve replaced the filter for a new one and the same is happening. The exhaust isn’t smoking black and the engine seems to run ok until the other day when the air filter light came on and I had to blow the spot of it. What is the point of the pipe that comes off the bottom of the exhaust stack and seems to go into the air cleaner?

I'd say there is something amiss with the exhaust stack. Just disconnect the vacuum hose from it and do without it. Part of the hose has been missing from my 6270 since I got it and it makes no difference to it not being there, other than a slight suction noise from the bottom of the stack.

previous owner of our 7740 blocked the vacuum hose from the filter to the exhaust with a piece of wood. mixing slurry one day and things didnt smell right, burnt the wood lite the air filter too so i would advice blocking on the exhaust side with a piece of steel bar when you remove it.

My challenger exhaust had partly melted inside and was chocking itself. It was then blowing bavk into the air filter via that suction tube. Got bad enough that it burnt the manifold gaskets from the back pressure. I’d check the insides of the exhaust just to put your mind at ease.

The little pipe will have burnt through inside the exhaust letting the exhaust gas go the wrong way
There should be a one way valve or spark arrestor in the pipe. Otherwise the air cleaner element could catch fire and consume itself while being sucked into the engine via the turbocharger. Not good on so many levels.

Best the OP check and remedy that Venturi in the exhaust and as a temporary fix, disconnect the flexible pipe at the exhaust end and blank it off. The tractor will work perfectly well without it, but will tend to block the air filter more often.

Yep rubber thing in the pipe by the air filter.
Done away with the one on mine years ago as the exhaust burnt out completely and a replacement was silly money in comparison with giving a mate a few quid to make one from a old lorry exhaust, which is still going fine
Shame in a way though as it did stop the filter getting dirty so quick.

I do have a brand new silencer still in the bag but that has never given any trouble it was the next bit back towards the engine

Has tractor been running light, not doing any heavy work causing silencer to become blocked or partially blocked
