MF 6470 engine bother.

I have a near neighbour and his brother in law, who have both had bother with the timing gears on the engine in a Massey 6470.
It's a 4 cylinder Sisu engine I believe.
The first one had oil pump failure which finished the engine, but the timing gear had been getting noisy just before this and had to be replaced on the short engine. The more recent fail was stripped gears and then valves in the pistons, bent push rods. Neither of these two had big hours, 3-4000, and both well looked after tractors.
We were just wondering if this was a common Sisu engine issue? Anybody else had problems?
Dealer claims they have never had this problem before. Seems a bit of a coincidence that the only two 6470 in the area have both failed.
These two tractors about 5yrs apart in age so it can't really be a "bad batch either.
TIA.

I know of a 5460 or 70 (can't quite remember) That had a new sisu engine in after 50 hours as. I don't think it's been any major bother since

I thought the 4cylinder sisu engines were supposed to be bombproof & good for 30k +hrs(n) I'd never heard of any problems with them apart from water pumps & exhaust manifold gaskets until this???
I thought it was some of the last of the Perkins engines before sisu that were problematic

Not heard of a single serious issue with Valtra engines. Well, that's not quite right, and I was discussing this with the dealer a few months ago. The very first MF tractor with Sisu engine the dealership sold, on a 6485, had a crack through to the water jacket on one of its two cylinder heads, from new, which eventually meant a new piston, liner, head and valves. Since then, over probably getting on for 1000 units out in the area, not a single major issue. The most common small problems were at one time some CPU computers lost their programming or failed due to heat or something, and a small number of water pumps early on when the Sisu replaced the Perkins common rail T3.

All in all I would say that the Sisu has been, and continues to be an excellent engine. Those who had early seven cylinder engines will probably disagree. None of those in this neck of the woods though. Besides which, they will have been sorted by now.

Oh right! There's not really any challengers around here, if any in this livestock area.
Going back to 4cyl sisu, they do sound to have quite a loudish rattle almost like gear backlash when running, but I think it's perhaps more of a diesel knock from the large cylinders

I know a 6470 that needed a new engine costing £12,000. It appears they don’t like it when a young lad mistakes a drum of pink coloured acid for a parlour for a drum of diesel and put it in the tank.....
Would it really need a new engine? More likely a injector pump and injectors after fuel contamination
