I've never seen the need for hydraulic top links .do people really adjust them that mutch
Same as Hydraulic quick hitch on a digger. Old school didn't see the point in them at the start either because they didn't need to change buckets much, how many times does a digger man change buckets on a site job now in a day?
Hyd toplinks are useful from a safety aspect during hitch up all the way through to machine adjustment on the go.

how do you adjust length when hitching up .surely you need to hold the link in place so how do you operate the spool lever in the cab .

Fender buttons if fitted, or set it long & lift the linkage on the fender buttons. Can also put spool in float & push pull by hand if no check valve fitted but that's a bit old skool these days I'd imagine.

we have electric spools but no fender buttons .do you adjust settings much .I've found with our big cultivation equipment they are not far out from plough xpress drill or power harrow maybe 1 or 2 turns difference

A new to us tractor came with a hydraulic top link, I love it! It is blooming heavy but fantastic for the plough, KRM spinner, any 3pl job to be honest.
It even gets swapped from tractor to tractor! I might have to buy a second one.

I like it for ploughing ends out. Just pull it right in for last run and doesn't leave much of a hole in field.

I got one specifically for my fertiliser spreader.easy to fit by lifting arms till it clips over ball on machine.very very easy to set angle of spreader too.with my old krm it was impossible to adjust top link without getting a stepladder to get between tractor and spreader and woth any weight on old top link it was just about impossible to adjust.also use it on a subsoiler but nothing else as i dont have enough scv’s.only 3 on each tractor but woukd need a minimum of 4.only paid about £270 ish from @Dave and worth every penny.untill you use on you will never know

Going back to the Massey top link the grease nipples arend in line with the threaded bit of the barrel , I,v drilled and and fitted an other pair in the center of the threaded bit , with the threads packed with grease and the original 2 keeping the sh!t out it should help ,time will tell.

on the mfs with electric spools you can work them from outside combined with the hydraulic top link makes life easier,as already said once you have one you will wonder how you managed before lol

I think a top link is heavy enough as it is. Ram and pipes can't make it better?
The waltershied on the fastrac is far too heavy, I reckon 80/90mm bore with a 40mm rod will be up to most jobs.. The hook end is heavy and weaker than a closed end and seems pointless, if you have buttons on the wings or like me, a lever on the spool that's easily reached. Manual top links were fine in the days of the mf35 but hopeless on modern big kit. I am buying everything possible with a frame brackets or converting them to this system and then the hyd top link is essential. They should be piped with 1/4 pipe, not 3/8.. much more bendy.
