I had the linkage go all over the place once and it was the bolts labelled 1 on the diagram had come loose

The reason that played havoc is because the crosshaft can then move sideways, which means that the eccentric plate, number 21, moves sideways, which moves the linkage position sensor, number 11, in and out.

My bet would be the linkage position sensor, either directly or, as above, indirectly.

Has the OP had the dealer out with a laptop? Surely all those expensive parts have not been thrown on through vanity and obstinacy?

I know my limits in that regard. Just yesterday my 7490 refused to change range and stuck in neutral. First thought was ‘fuse’. No. Second thought was the selector button or wiring from the console. Sense kicked in and I phoned the dealer and together we phoned the top man on such things at another depot, Rhys, who diagnosed a stiff Bowden cable. We disconnected the cable at one end and ‘bingo’, back to work with no parts needed. The cable is not needed for normal tractor operation apparently. On my own I would never have found that fault. I know it. Never. Neither would a normal mechanic who did not have the experience or was reluctant to ‘phone a friend’

I dunno that’s a pretty common thing with the dyna vt a quick search on hear would of shown that as the likely cause before the switch or anything else

That was your problem, so you would remember it. I’d forgotten all about it and despite using various searches it did not come up.
What is really interesting to me is that the cable concerned really isn’t necessary for normal tractor operation. It is used if the emergency lever were ever to be employed, as a mechanical backup to the electrical range change. Typical that it is the mechanical part that gives bother. :meh:
Mine is now just disconnected at the top right where it used to be attached by where the emergency lever would mate through the cab floor.

Are there any other instances of this issue cropping up in the forum?

I couldn’t see the point in that cable myself either tbh mine will be disconnected if it ever gives trouble as mine was just packed with mud giving my trouble

Had similar with our T3 6470 until last week, linkage used to do random things, go up on its own, carry on dropping with the switch in neutral etc Well the linkage finally stopped working all together so had the local dealer out with the laptop and it turned out to be the Auto 5 controller that had died. New one on and its spot on!

Did you ask for it to be covered under warranty? I would have :ROFLMAO:
How are you keeping? How's the boss-man keeping? Should call in one day to see you all. Time seems to pass by like a fast flowing river I'm afraid. At the least, give Mr and Mrs G my regards. I do think of you all from time to time.

I ‘liked’ your reply but that is hardly appropriate. So sorry to hear that, but we all get older and it is not something to aspire to.

Hi, i've got a similar problem on my 6470 T3! The lift arms goes crazy sometimes, but the rocker switch has to be in the up position for that to happen, seems to be fine in neutral. Just haf a new rocker switch, but still the same. What is the auto 5 controller?
