MF 860 digger no power

My father in law has an old MF 860 digger for odd jobs about his place.

Recently it has lost aĺl power, runs ok until he dead ends a ram against the blow off valve and just stalls.

Likewise trundles along with no load and as soon as you attempt a climb it just peters out.
Starts instantly after which makes me think its not fuel filter/supply related, filters wouldnt have 100hrs on them, it would need bleeding if it was choked surely?
I think it would be a Perkins 1004 engine in it, seem to remember something about a diaphram in the injector pump failing, would that symptoms be about right?
Remote diagnosis by phone call isnt ideal either!! :banghead: :banghead:
Thanks for any advice!

Ours had similar problems years ago. I think it was linked to a filter tucked in behind/near the brake fluid reservoir that had been missed on several occasions. Engines are not my thing at all and my memory is crap so I may be completely wrong!

I'll try and remember to get a photo tomorrow.

Should be a filter in the lift pump supply line .remove pipe then larger nut that threads into the pump body itself. pull out a plastic mesh screen,it's a funny shape so be sure to put it back the correct way.

Our 50 HXT had very similar symptoms a while back. Start and run fine. Trundle around yard fine but no power to climb a hill. The main fuel filter was embarrassingly choked up with gunk. Don't know how it was running at all.

Thanks for the ideas.
Brother in law is having a look at it so will pass on.
Sounds like a fueling issue from what he said.
Fingers crossed its an easy fix.

Try all the above as said and remove the outer air filter , remove the small inner one , and put in just the outer give her a blast and see the diaphragm is on the pump and check the steel pipe that goes the the manifold, and to check the inlet manifold gasket spray some carb spray round the manifold when running if see revs higher you have a leak
