Yes a good tractor ruined , but I suppose for arable work the side shift would be preferable

Not at all.
I'm yet to find a three-range box that's as good as a two-range!

With this MF side shift- 1st in high range is too high for starting off with a big loaded trailer on soft ground, you can try starting in 3/4 M but by the time you've stirred the lever to get into high momentum and speed is lost.
Give me Multi-power anyday!

Ok let me rephrase, I suppose the side shift box suits steering wheel attendants but for real men who can drive 3 stick box , or MP is better

It's a stupid high, med,low and 1234 all on one stick instead of the 2 or 3 levers in the middle of the floor
But high first is too fast so lots of changes from med to high and it's not even very reliable
It’s managed 7000 hours on our 375 without any drama that spring broke but that ain’t a expensive fix, o think it’s worse on tractors with big back wheels as 1st high is fine on that 375 but it is on small wheels

I have also been told newest 4300 series with 24 speed high first is low enough

Only if a rare 30kph version or a 2wd [which are all 30kph]

Our 4235 has the 30KPH version of the 12sp shuttle side shift.
It's on little wheels, and these do help- but it depends more on size of load and on what ground.
It's much more difficult starting off on a soft field than on concrete.
