That's a standard MF AutoHitch of circa 1969 - 71 vintage. After that (approx.) time they changed the 'hoop' type lifting rods for chains (which then stretched in use). I remember it being said at the time that there were safety fears of people accidentally putting their fingers through the 'hoops' & getting them chopped off when the hitch was raised to release the locks. Changing to chains removed this hazard. Don't know if there's any truth that rumour, but arguably it was a risk

Attached MF Product Information Leaflet says it was introduced in March 1969, but I'm not sure when the 'hoops' were phased out & replaced by Chains. Have seen the 'hoop' type auto-hitch on 'G' & 'H' reg MF 100 series tractors ... Not sure about 'J' reg. Someone's bound to know!

Is that fair money for the 35 this thread is referring to,
In the future I will be looking for something to get me back into the match ploughing scene
It doesn't seem too bad, £4k for a 3 cyl 35 in good nick seems to be the going rate. But in the case of that ad, the hitch could be removed and sold separately, big market for original MF add ons, people who already has the tractor and want to make it a bit different for the shows seem to pay a lot for original stuff, which could make that one a bit cheaper

It happens, mate of mine lost fingers as a youngster on that type of hitch, held on to it and his aul boy lifted the arms and took his fingers off 😳

Ah, so the rumour wasn't an 'Urban Myth' then. Could quite see how it could happen. Spent many hours as a lad sitting on the inside edge of the mudguard in a MF 100 series cab & that's exactly where your hands could end up if you weren't careful
Machinery manufacturers rarely change a design unless there's something wrong with it or they're forced to by an 'Enforcement Agency'. Looks like that's what happened here.

That’s exactly were he was sitting, think he was only 5 or 6 at the time 😕
