MF6490 - sharp clutch

The clutch on our Massey seems very sharp (might just be more when cold at startup though), as is the shuttle. I've tried altering the "shuttle" section on the dot matrix, but it doesn't see to make much difference. Does + or - make it slower/smoother when changing from forward to reverse?

I've got the instructions written down somewhere, but nobody knows where since the kitchen re-vamp.
Got a fair idea of how to do it and if I jumped on one could soon work it out but if I gave you detailed written instructions you could be sure that I would miss something out and/or give some misleading info, so I won't.

The two clutch packs, one for forward and one for reverse, are the main big clutches linked to the clutch pedal and power-control lever de-clutch. When you re-calibrate you do all the packs in the transmission and the range synchronisers as far as I know.
Basically the transmission has to be up to temperature, engine running at 1500 with air-con off, power-control in some position or another and some rockers on the console pressed for five seconds or more. Not sure which, and if you do the wrong one you might lose the calibration of the foot throttle. So make sure you get it right.

Assuming this is a dyna 6 tractor the calibration is for the fwd/rev shuttle is a follows,

1- bring the transmission up to temperature, with the engine running press and hold the diff lock switch and the range button in the end of the t bar and the temperature will be displayed on the RH dot matrix screen. Aim for somewhere around 38 degrees but anywhere 35-45 is acceptable.

2, park the tractor on level ground and release the handbrake, disengage all a/c pto, diff lock, 4wd etc, set engine to 1500 rpm I use the a/b preset buttons if fitted.

3, hold the fwd/rev lever in its raised position above its fwd position and press and hold the diff lock switch, after a few seconds the range lights should start flashing 1-4 when the do release both switches, the transmission should now auto calibrate.

4, calibration is complete when the range lights flash 1-2.

Good luck!

The 6200/8200 series powershuttle tractors can be calibrated I think like this.... It's from memory so could be wrong!

1- hold the hi/lo button (push stick across on early tractors) and the diff lock switch together for a few seconds, the dynashift lights should flash, warm the transmission up until you get all the lights lit constantly, not flashing, if d starts flashing its too hot.

2, restart the engine and release the clutch, do not repress the pedal during the next steps or you will have to start over

3, ensure gear lever is in neutral and select tortoise range, ensure 4wd, diff lock and pto are all disengaged and increase engine rpm to 1500 using the hand throttle

4, put the powershuttle lever into forwards position and ensure the arrow on the dash lights up, press and hold the diff lock switch and high lo selector until the fwd/rev lights start flashing and then release them, the transmission should now auto calibrate. The buzzer/ bleeper should sound.

5, calibration is complete when only the fwd light illuminates and the buzzer stops.

I'm fairly sure that's right!

I have the instructions to calibrate the shuttle on my 5455 speedshift, but how do i know the transmission is at the correct temp? It has worked a couple of times for me, pure luck that it was at the correct temp but every other time it hasnt worked.

Hold the hi/lo button and diff lock and it should display it on the fwd/rev lights, flashing Fwd light means to cold and rev light means to hot, you need them both lit constantly

Is it the same procedure on the 7600's?

@fergiedoctor

Sorry for another combination but mine is a 6455 dynashift. Sounds like the 6200 process above should work but how do you know when the temp is OK (different lights)? Held range button and diff last night. What looks to be a temp appeared on LCD, started at 1 degree (wasn't that cold) and got up to 30 after an hour on bedder. Guess it needs to be warmer, but what changes? I assume you restart, 1500 rpm, put into forward and hold range & diff again to calibrate, but what's the trigger?

Ta.

Not meaning to be critical here, but I'm surprised none of your dealers have told you about these procedures when you purchased the tractor, I thought calibration is classed as routine maintenance. My dealer does mine 6 monthly for free(y)
