Are you paying someone to take it?!

My parents had a couple of Montego countryman estates when we were kids with rear facing seats in the boot. If anyone had gone into the back of us we'd have lost our legs at a minimum. A truly awful car.

No not paying to have it taken away hoping someone would offer me a price to take it off my hands going to advertise it locally and possibly eBay I would like to keep it but I will have no spare money with the house build and its been sat already for 15 years!! Thought I would put it on here as there are a few car nuts on here plus she can motor 2litre turbo will do 0-60 in 6.9s well not in the current state!!!

I thought they were a bit quicker than that, or was that the maestro?

A very quick car in its day, and in very good nick for its age, I would try the MG Owners club.I used to own one years ago, my abiding memory is its hunger for front wheel bearings!Oh and also almost rear ending a Porsch, he couldnt accelerate as fast as I could! I almost found out the hard way!

Wheel bearings never been a problem it did have a clutch at 80k but as you said it really could fly and it used to tow as well! Something about the sound of a petrol engine when turbo spools up!!

My mate's Dad had a B reg MG Montego. It was the one with talking function, which was very novel back in the day. When it was about a fortnight old, my mate put it through a drystone wall one night, doing 4k's worth of damage to the car. All the voice said as he crashed through the wall was " a lamp is out " :D His Dad, however had a fair bit more than that to say!!!

Lovely car in its day. I had a non-turbo MG Montego. B reg but with the conventional dash as with the white one in the pictures. Engine more refined and torquey than my previous Golf GTi 1.8 and the gearbox and brakes miles better. Lovely glassy cabin meant superb visibility. I really liked the car.

Except for one thing. You never knew whether it would get you there, much less bring you back. It was horrendously unreliable. The first date with [the now] Mrs Duck was taking her to a 4x4 demo in Shrewsbury in 1986, when the car was two years old. The wheel bearing started to make a nasty noise on the way back and the future Mrs Duck was convinced that it was an excuse to get her into a lay-by. Well, it was as good a reason as any and better than I could ever have thought of at the time.
