Michael Eavis planning for new shed for dairy expansion turned down after 20 objections

There is no set pattern , there isn't going to be one in 2121.
They were going to host Variety Bazaar somewhere else but that's not happening now so we will be having it.
It never was going to happen - it was just a ploy because the farmers that rent him land were wanting more and he didn't want to pay it so he threatened that he would take it elsewhere.

How did it ever start?
If you had a rave on your farm it would soon be closed down?
It started very small and it was turned down a couple of times but as he made more money he had more power. He just told them he would go ahead without a licence. We once managed to stop the licence but Mendip District Council did everything they could to help him. The solicitor stood up and told the councillors to bear in mind that if they voted against it, he could take them to court and it would cost locals more in council tax.

It's not a week - it's months. The build up starts in March. Then we have the festival and then it's another two months after that. Then he has to get rid of stuff - waste etc. Then the leaves fall off and then we see the rest of the mess that has to be cleared up - bottles, food wrappers etc. Give it another day and walking down a leafy lane will be rank with the smell of urine.

Many years ago, when I was 19, I saved up and saved up and purchased a Ford XR2i :):)

On my way back from a night out, whilst listening to Wonderwall by Oasis on full blast, I was pulled over by a police man for going 5 miles over the speed limit. I told the policeman about the hardships which I had faced whilst saving up :whistle:and that I was only 5mph over the speed limit and doing no harm at 11 30pm. I pleaded that any points on my licence would increase my insurance premium and it would have a detrimental impact on my life;)

He listened and finally replied ...life is not fair son...the law is the law and I was handed a ticket.

In a similar fashion, I do feel for your predicament but if Mr Eavis is doing everything by the book, then you really have no grounds to complain. He does not make the laws of the land and you going on about his activities on here will make no difference, unless he is actually breaking the law.

Eavis has been prosecuted because of selling tickets twice - it was a licence stipulation that it was ticket only. This was when you didn't need a photo. He asked for the court case to be heard in another county as he didn't think it would be fair to have it here - he was found guilty so cannot hold the licence in his name now.

I would feel the same if Mr Eavis was doing everything by the book! My wife just asked me why I was laughing!

I'm just personally surprised that if he isn't doing things by the book as you state, why none of the authorities have investigated.

If any of us were spreading human waste on fields; dumping / infilling with waste without licenses etc we would be hauled over the coals by any number of clipboard welding zealots.

(Anti hunt, pro cull btw).

Yes, the son is the chairman of the parish council and also the playing fields commitee and he without any discussion with any of the playing fields commitee, put a mast up there. We think (hope) it's just a radio mast but he got £4000 from EE for it - it will go to the playing fields fund but money has a habit of disappearing from that! Eavis's stepdaughter used to work for him but she left when she found out he was having 5G down there.

So the chairman of the playing fields committee negotiated to get an EE mast on the site, where the rent will be paid to the playing field fund? Good man. There are a lot of playing fields that would love to have that kind of steady income to help them run.

You need to read the bit about 'has a habit of disappearing' - that's another story but we're not talking about the corruption of the Village Hall Trust and the Pilton Playing Fields Trust. It's nothing to do with farming. This seems to have gone on a bit and I only really posted in the beginning to defend Dick Skidmore who really is a 'good man'.

Off to use your free ticket at the festival? [emoji854]

Reality is you’ve run out of ways to turn & now realising the corner you’re in; having been called out, offering zero evidence, & Painting forum members as “Prohunt, AntiCull”.

If the environmental breaches, lack of animal welfare, and frauds of your imagination could be proven - then surely you’d expend the energy to expose such things? You’d take a leaf out of his book & seek higher authorities to alert and investigate.

1) Safety breaches from 20 years ago.
2) Pollution from the site 5 years ago, for which the organisers had low culpability.
3) Some workers that took zero hours contracts felt hard-done-by when there wasn’t as much work as they had hoped (which frankly could probably have been handled better on both sides).

Everyone will have their own opinion on the veracity of your claims. My own opinion is that I doubt there are many massively successful entrepreneurs out there that haven’t made a mistake or two in their past and been criticised, even prosecuted for it. Many of the claims you’ve made just read like the usual tittle tattle of any village. While I can see that it must be a pain for a while at this time of year, I can’t see it being a major disruption from March through the autumn. I guess that most people in the UK experience inconvenience due to local businesses or events (traffic disruption, lorries blocking roads etc), but most people just get on with it. Personally I find the more outlandish claims border on conspiracy theories ‘they’re all in on it’, and I don’t really go in for conspiracy theories.

You could probably afford a better house elsewhere:

As a local ( not as local as the op I must add) yes the roads are a bit chocker for a few days even the country lanes thanks to good old satnav. I must thank Glastonbury festival for the 10s of thousands of pounds my children’s primary and secondary schools have received over the years and then there’s every rugby club I’ve been involved in that just wouldn’t survive without the money they earn there. I’m sure someone from the football , hockey, netball, karate and yoga clubs will all say the same, then there’s the contractors that earn from it. All those that work/volunteer have a great time and really enjoy themselves. I no longer go to the festival now as it doesn’t interest me anymore (too old) but I really think everyone should go at least once just to experience it.

Reckon they deserve any penny they make.
The hassle must be enormous, dealing with pop starts, pee'd up punters, complying with every rule & regulations.
Then having to clear up afterwards so the land is fit for farming
Don`t envy them at all
Hats off to him let's thousands of music lovers onto his grassland, his fields must take a hammering from trucks cars and people on them !

lol ,
have to agree , i can hear the festival from here , easier to watch it on tv these days , with a can of cider and widows open , at least i can use the loo and sleep at night . its a hard day trudging around down there with nowhere to sit down ,that silty mud x urine smell is quite unique to pilton , Must have seen that ginger busker half a dozen times , Was a great place to be in teh 80s when you could just walk through the hedge , its much too corporate these days ,
