Michelin vs. Trelleborg

We’ve one tractor on 600 trelleborgs and one on 600 Michelin’s

the Michelin’s last longer but are fecking dangerous on ice and snow just don’t have the same grip even tho they look the same

Just changed a tractor that was on michelins, fine up to 49k,as soon as you got to 50k they were very noisy, trelleborgs on the replacement are far quieter,i do think the michelins will last longer though.

Front trelleborgs I had wore uneven and cracked on the sidewalls and the noise was horrendous from them once they were worn a bit. got mitchelin on now which also have a bit of road noise at certain speeds will see how they last . The mitchelin on the other tractor have worn well but getting noisy on the road now. Have ordered a set of nokian ground kings to try on another tractor that's on pirelli's at the moment and lasted well. Will see what they are like.

Trelleborg 580/70r38 on ours and they're a disgrace in my opinion. Worn out very quickly but as well as that,as they wear down the treads get so wide they don't dig in to hard ground anyway. Wouldn't have them again at half the price. Trelleborg on the Manitou been brilliant 🤔

The trelleborgs on our 936 were good in field and road, wore very even tbh but the sidewalls were knackered with 30% tread left. I’d opt for the Michelin
I had the same with trelleborgs on my 927. About 70% tread on one of them when the sidewall went. Trelleborg wouldn’t warrant it blaming me for staking them.

needless to say I put Michelin on the next one but only 1000 hrs so far

Sidewalls blowing out must be common for trelleborg, I hear a lot of that in my area
We had a set of trelleborgs last 7000 hrs with 10% tread left but sidewalls were absolutely knackered even though always had enough pressure in. 3000 hour 3 year old set of a neighbours with 40% tread left had knackered side walls and heard trelleborg helped them out with a new set.

Just changed the trellies on the front of my tractor, side wall cracked.

The other tractor we demoed had Michelins and the noise at road speed very quickly gave me a headache.

Recently chatted to the Trelleborg rep and he said to avoid the TM700s specifically 580/70R42, in fact he said they were only good for hanging off the side of a trawler.

I’ve really only had experience with Michelins and I can’t say I’ve noticed much for road noise ?

Very happy with trelleborg on the 3 sets we’ve ran so far. Previous Massey had Michelin and didn’t notice any noise but they tend to wear funny I think and the sidewall seems to curve in. The trelles are nice square sidewalls.

Manitou has Michelin’s and the noise at 36k is bloody horrendous

That would be one of my complaints is the Michelins done wear evenly. My guess is due to a softer rubber compound?710/75/42, 600/65/34

Biggest issue with tyre wear on tractors is road work. The tendency to overinflate them for better fuel economy doesn't correlate with the air pressure needed for the load on the tyres. This is how tractor tyres are designed, to carry a given load at a given pressure, not stick 20psi in the fronts cos your on road work unless you're gonna stick 1.5 ton on front links.

Michelin's on a loader tractor 7500hrs in 7 years with a fair amount of road work on them too and I think they have worn well, definitely when compared with the Firestones on the t6080. 1600hrs and the outside treads are almost flat has got a loader but the tractor with the mich's hads done similar work at those hr's
