I've been looking into buying land on a small scale (under 10 acres) and starting a micro scale small holding or farm, this would be focused on self suffientcy rather than profit, my research has led me no where and I can't see any way its possible with current planning and building regulations, does anyone know if this can be done or has been done ?

This is probably a useless reply, but I do know plenty of people with good decent enterprizes on small acreages. Everyones is different, but the common rule is that they work hard and build up the customer base. It all depends on if you want to get into pigs, chickens, trees, goats, cheese, polytunnels etc. You will need an off farm income to begin with, but once you get up and running you could wind back or go at it full time.

Whats you biggest issue, is it planning?

Farming it will be easy enough compared to getting Planning permission for a house which will be harder
