In the Telegraph reported as if the whole of UK is spreading digestate which is far from the truth. I suspect it is all concentrated in some areas and of course no indication as to how plastic gets there in the first place by people flushing stuff and finding its way into our sewer system.
If farmers don't accept digestate then going to be a big pile of poo somewhere.

I considered digestate and hearing of the micro plastics issue it was a no brainier to totally discount it as an option.

Why would you intentionally pollute your land in an irreversible way?

Was on radio yesterday, or maybe Friday too.. reported as micro plastics spread on farmland and water companies were urging people to stop flushing wet wipes away to stop the problem. Nothing about them getting their fecking affairs in order.

Be a massive surprise to public where their waste ends up.

Food waste is full of plastic packaging too. None is removed before putting it into a bio digester. They just put it all through a hammer mill to smash it into small particles.

I've been in a couple of plants that do have separators, but they're not perfect & certainly not practical for the average sized unit.

Indeed the give away is ‘micro’.

Not physically possible to remove the problematic plastics.

If you can see it with the naked eye it currently would not be an issue. It’s the stuff you can’t see which is building issues for the future,the stuff which can cross cell membranes and become incorporated into organisms.

I have long been of the opinion that plastics could be a bigger problem than our current obsession with climate change and the transfer of cash to greenwashers. We just haven’t quite yet realised.

IIRC a lot of fish now have plastics in their blood and the ever vigilant Dutch have found them in cows

Seems to me more farmers use plastic on maize crops than use this digestate.

I totally agree. I have never allowed any of the waste products on my place, despite heavy pressure from my contractors over the years. 'Its cheap nutrients!' they kept saying. Not looking so cheap now though.

I think the day is coming when the Environment Agency suddenly declare that land with X level of microplastics is considered contaminated, and various restrictions as to its use will apply. All those people who have been falling over themselves to do the water company's job for them and disposing of sewage sludge on their land will find themselves in a bit of a bind.

microplastic is now been found , detected in human blood? as i understand it microplastics are, or were used in toothpaste, and cosmetics? plastic is in clothing, plastic is in the air plastic is everywhere?
