A well known feature of mid tier agreements, then you find that you have missed all the first years planting season for hedges and you only have one winter to plant everything........

As your agreement matures you can graduate to the next level - When am I going to get my payment?

Wildlife offers are very much quicker. I declined my initial mid tier as it took too long, luckily the wildlife offers came out in time for the following year.

Didn’t get our agreement last year until end of May, by which time the revenue claim window had closed.m and we had missed spring planting for some options. I submitted a paper revenue claim at the RPA’s request in June once the agreement was through. As we were late in getting our agreement not all options were planted or therefore claimed for. We got a revenue payment last week for approximately 1/3rd of what was in the original agreement and about a half of what we should have been paid if that makes sense. I emailed and asked what was going on and they said they had lost the emails with the claim information in that I sent them.

It really is a shambles, especially when Janet Hughes et al is telling us it’s the flight path to ELM - maybe this isn’t a journey we should be joining….

This shambles was why I raised it with my MP. How Defra/ RPA are going to administer even more schemes with LR LNR and various technology funds whilst cutting costs is beyond me.

Beyond me too. Gove’s vision (and he was really the brains behind all this) was for a scheme that a farmer could sit down and apply for over a cup of tea in twenty minutes - yet the whole thing just gets more and more obfuscated by the week. The administration that we need to do for mid tier is unreal - I say administration, it is more correspondence with RPA to rectify (usually) their mistakes. Don’t get me wrong, the staff you speak to are always helpful and pleasant - they are probably as frustrated as us!

What they should do is get rid of the need to put all the options on each field in the application

just list all the fields in the scheme and
then put the total area of each option in the application

then when you claim each year fill in the areas on each option in each field on the online system as we do now

we all try very hard to make sure we have enough of each option in each field parcel where as it would be a lot more sensible from a checking and administration point of view to just need the total are that was claimed

the initial application could easy be checked and passed with out checking every parcel and every option

on a farm with many small parcels checking every option and parcel before the offer is pointless and does nothing to help the environment or prevent government money being wasted
that is for the inspection teams

as we know common sense and administrators do not go together
