Are there many doing this? I usually lamb start of April on rested fields, no real growth here until middle of may, This year it didn't come until mid June, , was hoping to get away with out resting the lambing fields and graze them all winter, any thoughts??
You will have missed the boat.....never lamb sheep in a month with an M, an A and a Y in it!I lambed end of Apr to end of May. It's ok but too long. This year I intend on a 17 day tupping period, probably aiming to start lambing 01 May.
October? Don’t think he’s lambing Leicesters? You will have missed the boat.....never lamb sheep in a month with an M, an A and a Y in it!
No good in october, march and april for lambing!October? Don’t think he’s lambing Leicesters?
Weve had odd late born ones may and june and they never catch up
People that lambed in april are grading lambs now though at £140.View attachment 1047468
My May born hoggs are doing a good job of rearing their May born lambs and maintaining body condition on poor forage. I guess no one told them
Probably end of September as storesWhen do you want to sell? Out May born lambs never catch up with the others growth wise until March. They miss that flush of good spring grass

My problem has always been after saving the grass for ewes to lamb on ,a fortnight later its cleaned bare, then a good 6 weeks before it comes good, and ewes are trying to milk of clay and stonesEarly may lambs seem fine but any born after about the 14th never seem to grow into much. Ewe miss the flush to get milking when the lambs are 6 weeks old.

As i said you are in danger of missing the boat.

Woah woah woah, what happened to that Suffolk lamb that was going to be ready by Easter??Shetland based maternals on zero input downland would not achieve sufficient growth to draw now even if lambed in Jan.
I'm a store lamb producer. The increase in lamb survival is worth the trade off. As I fix my ewe type and improve my grassland management you may well be correct.
I can always lamb earlier if needed.
Give it chance, it’s got 9 months to go yet.Woah woah woah, what happened to that Suffolk lamb that was going to be ready by Easter??
Had no rain here but PP has hung on well considering, is downland chalk ?Zero input downland being grazed by sheep and cattle. And there's been very little rain.
Sheep are on tack so I'm not in charge of grazing management.
