Hi lads just wondering what's the least amount of milk a co-op will collect from my farm in a week thinking of starting up a small scale dairy farm of 20 cows to start with, I currently run a beef system that's a waste of time financially, my thinking is run a small dairy farm and put money in my pocket instead of loosing it in a beef system

It's just I read something on arrabawn website that minimum collection is 400 litres twice a week and I'm just wondering what's the minimum collection for summer milk and I'd be going from 20 it's only a starting point really

supplying arrabawn in galway and minimum collection is 400l year round. Usually come every 3 days. Make sure you check with arrabawn that they will take your milk before you get too excited and also have a read of the journal as the regulation coming down the road are anti farming.

Why does everyone think there is a pot of gold under a cows udder!!!,
I watch from the outside at my father continuously chasing his tail after milk cows, It's a 7 day a week 20+ hour/day money pit !.
If you cant make money from Beef at the moment you wont make any from milk.
Go work on a dairy farm for a while and you'll soon see what i mean.

For me it's not about the pot of gold it's about Doing something with my land that will make me some extra money, yes lots of hard work involved but it's something I've wanted to do since I was a kid and now I have the chance at 39, I'll be starting from scratch that's why I'm starting with 20 , and when I'm older I have something to give to my kids , I've never shyed away from hard work . Start small aim big and when the big dairy farmers are f**ked I'll still be standing

Many houses / cafés / caterers near you ? Best option might be to sell it yourself . @Tim G has the business model 😁 There is a thread on here with his story. Forget the title, someone will be along with the link

Need to do some more so I can update the thread.

The beat on the street bu 2023 you need enough slurry capacity from 15 Sept to 15 jan. Your nitrogen kg per cow will be dependent on her production, the higher the output the higher nitrogen, fertiliser usage to be reduced by 10 percent, all slurry towers and tanks to be covered by 2027
