We've gone down 3p since June. We're organic so don't use any fertilizer but cake is getting ridiculous over £500 a ton

Labour is also going to have a huge impact as larger units that rely of cheap labour are going to struggle to find staff.
Can most on here get plenty off staff @ good rates of pay .Biggest business restriction at the moment in my opinion

going to be the new quota, could be entering the age of the family farm again?

Lots of manager ran chicken units struggling around here as can’t find staff.

Expect it's a bigger drop than that if you include removal of PWAB payment on Non allocation and the 1ppl cut of the original winter price.

In April,May and June we will probably be on 5p less than conventional. Crazy.
If spring price is too high,as it was IMHO this year for us hence the price cut, then you don't have the level supply the customer needs.

Try finding 40p spot price then.....more likely to swap the 4 for a 1!

So pleased I didn’t buy a Fendt now, imagin keeping up the payments and servicing one of those! Guessing you can’t fix one with a shifting key and a hammer.

As far as the milk price goes who knows? That’s the big unknown, in a cruel sort of way the less cows milking in 6-12 months time the better. Survival of the fittest as they say.

That's what I'm hoping for though, static is absolutely fine by me, what scares the crap out of me is inputs up by a quarter and milk moving by 10%
I need a good year next year as this one has been underwhelming to say the least

Now next question for everyone I have a load of fert in the shed atm, that will get me through until mid April, do I buy another load now at £600/t or do I wait until the spring and risk not getting it? Dad and I are currently arguing about this, he says wait I say buy now
100% buy now

Faceache has been swamped with job adverts the last month for dairy farms and that is across all herd sizes.

Very little intrest in any of the jobs but that is not surprising really.

As nearly every job want people to work 12 days on/2 off starting say 5/6 am and working untill 5/6/7 pm every working day including weekends all year around for about £9/10 hour..

No housing either!

Very few people with a family/ kids etc are going to want to work those hours/days all year around, you are just living to work and wont have time to do anything for yourself as the two days off you will just be sleeping most of it.

On the other side one job had working every other weekend but 2 days off in the week when you work that weekend, no more than 45 hours a week except at calving/ harvest/ covering illness etc for a week or two and they had a list of benefits including healthcare and a nice house in the village, they were swamped with people intrested..

I'm currently advertising a job for a General Farm Worker. Working every second weekend and a day off through the week when on at the weekend, 30 hours one week/40 the other. 9 o' clock start, 4 o' clock finish other than on the weekend when covering milkings.

We have no house to go with the job unfortunately. Not had much interest. Only a couple or 16 year old boys with no transport or means of getting to work, and a guy from 100 miles away who's Facebook profile was full of posts about bail conditions and getting out of prison!
