Butterfat is upto 3.235 from 3.15 and protein is upto 4.53 from 4.41, so still more weight has been added to protein instead of fat which I think is pretty fekin' ridiculous.
@farmer on a bike please can you explain why yet more weighting has been put on protein when the market is being driven by fat.
As i have already said the ratio is set at beginning of the year by the bor.
If you read the half year accounts statement. Whey is the most profitable part of the business. Just because fat is currently soaring on the spot does not mean protein needs throwing under the bus.
Depends if they forward sold and locked into what they thought were record highs at that time.butter at record prices.
Thank you, you were the only one who answered my question previously but even you only said that you thought that the ratio was set earlier in the year.
Whey is the most profitable part of Arla Foods Ingredients, not the most profitable part of the whole business. I doubt that all the whey that goes into Volac calf milk power at Taw Valley is more profitable than butter at record prices.
I never suggested that protein should be ignored but it seem another poor system to me if the ratio cannot be altered of the market changes. It is relatively easy to feed for higher fats and if there is a real danger of a fat shortage as Arla have suggested that there might be, then paying proportionately more for fat could easily increase supply and benefit all members.
the ratio of fat to protein is set at the start of each year based on the income over the previous three years. It was moved more to fat this year. We have asked the Amba board for an indication of next year, as we expect a significant increase in fat to protein ratio for the payment.
