Milk Price Tracker

Would seem the bad summer is starting to take its grip. Some seem to have tried to feed there way out it, but feed firms reporting never to have been owed to much.
We definitely haven't milked so well, and I will guarantee a mid teens or more mt rate after 12 weeks, compared to 10.6% last year after 9.

today i had our feed firm phone to chase up money, but they read out account number and what was owing, not saying our trading name, befor i realised we are paid uptodate, must of selected wrong number but the figue owing im sure was a 6 digit long!

Arla up until this autumn just gone , have been lagging behind on price slightly....but now are out in front.
We are fully paid up members and have been happy with the company.....however...we handed our notice in and start selling our milk to muller in july 2019.
The only reasons we did this was because of slightly the price but mainly our collection issues. We hire a small buffer tank and at peak times fill 200 litre drums....bactoscans always less than 10 and farm assurance were happy with it......
But obviously not ideal long term.
I was faced with 20 grand bill for bigger tank and dairy alterations or change buyer and have milk collected everyday and problem sorted.
Now the price difference would easily pay for tank and alterations and feel i have made a mistake changing buyer...what would forum farmers do?

Plan for me this year is to put in a buffer tank to cover me at peak yield for 3/4 months or whatever. So can stay on eod.

Then the rest of the year I will be on the flexible collection bonus.

Edit: and both tanks will be on this 3" outlet job as well.
Should give me an extra penny(ish). Soon pays back.

A change of mind wouldn't be uncommon.
I know a chap who constantly had his notice in only to resind at the 11th hour. Then would resign again in the next window:rolleyes:.

I would make sure your current buyer is happy with that before burning bridges with the new one.

Spoken to arla and they are bullish about just going back on a whim.....so ive been told that i will have to appeal.

Stick to your guns, you made a major business decision based on experience from a long period can’t let a couple of short term price changes sway your decision. Arla could change things in the spring and you would be 2-3p better off with muller again.

I hope that you have the choice of more than two milk purchasers in your area ?
Because your gonna upset one either way now. (especially if you get undecisive and mess them around) I would say that you've probably made your original decision over time , and then acted on it .
Stick with it , that way you don't make a fool of yourself with either buyer, and probably leave doors open to you for future decisions you may decide to make .
Maybe you have now also given yourself the luxury of sitting back and seeing how brexit pans out for Arla .

Wish my bill for tank upgrade was only 20k! Likely to be 3x that, but a positive payback is ensuring it's going in and am staying with Arla.
Actually a flat pack self assembly tank has just arrived in the post[emoji23]

Just think what you can do with the Arla capital when/if you get it back.

Look long term not short term on price.
