What sort of cows have you got? Very good quality.

about 3/4s of the cows are British Friesian and 1/4 have some kiwi in them, we’ve been gaining around 0.1 a year on both F & P since I started down the Kiwi route, breeding the kiwi stuff back to Norwegian Red then put them back to BF and make some sort of a 3 way cross is the long term master plan, at the moment anyways. Mortality rate below 1% for the last 2 years and hardly using any ABs anymore. A far cry from where we were 10 years ago.

Must be a lot of 5shite jobs suffering from the merry go around of 5hite herdsmen/managers that would be getting past the point of no return or struggling to find agency staff to plug the gaps? How are firms like LKL managing to find staff?

Were far from a 5shite job but finding anyone reliable to do anything Is getting nearly impossible, have a great full time stockman who’ll do anything except milk and few really good part timers filling in as an extra to their full time jobs outside of farming but finding the other member of staff needed seems almost impossible, have spent money in past year to try and save on labour and make things quicker and easier without compromising welfare or quality. if I wasn’t prepared to milk cows every day we would likely be soon looking at exiting dairying.

Seems to be same dairies looking for various staff on regular occasions in this area.
Some have a constant advert in place.

There's been alot of workers working throughout the pandemic with very little thanks or financial renumeration for doing so. Is anyone really surprised by this?

I've heard from a few drivers over there that say they're pi**ed off because whilst agencies are offering much higher rates at the moment, the fulltime, employed drivers aren't really seeing any increase.
Add that to the stupidly long wait times at shippers and receivers and the way they are treated in general and they're getting fed up, especially as they generally all kept working during lockdowns to keep things moving.
